SUMMARY: VSE Corporation is currently seeking to hire an Accounting Specialist for an opportunity in our corporate office in Alexandria, VA. The Accounting Specialist will support with the preparation and submission of invoices to our various Federal Gov’t customers for VSE’s Federal and Defense Services (FDS) Segment reporting to the Billing Manager.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manages the semi-monthly billing cycle for assigned projects and programs. This will include but is not limited to:

o Creation and submission of billings to customers during mid-month and end-of-month invoicing cycles to ensure timely and accurate customer billings and collections.

o Reconciliation of billing invoices, which includes invoice validation and obtain resolution on discrepancies partnering with Project/Program Management team and Finance Operations leaders.

o Establish rapport with government customers to ensure timely review and approval of invoices by the customer.

  • Manages the annual process reviewing indirect rate variance and submitted adjusted invoices to DCAA/DCMA.
  • Responsible for the preparation and submission of final invoices to DCMA as part of contracts closeouts through analysis and reconciliation of final audited job costs to previous invoiced amounts.
  • Responsible for reviewing the billing requirements on new contracts and order reviews and setting up the billing process. This includes but is not limited to, creation of billing templates for all contract types based on contract and order requirements.
  • Create and maintain all electronic and hard copy A/R records and files.
  • Responsible for quarterly reconciliations of unbilled project AR balances to identify the significant items that make up the unbilled balances. Required to research and resolve discrepancies for financial transparency and accountability.
  • Support internal & external audits related to the billing and A/R functions as needed
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other finance related field or experience in lieu of degree
  • 5 years of experience in Government Contracting accounting
  • Experience with using Deltek Accounting ERP systems
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office products particularly with excel
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate (written/orally)
  • Self-starter
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work as a team or independently.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint and IBM Cognos
