The Deseret News seeks an experienced illustrator/graphic designer to create editorial illustration and graphic design for its new and evolving digital news products.

The role:
The illustrator/graphic designer will create original editorial illustrations, photo illustrations, infographics, and design elements to augment news stories. They will also provide design assistance to the marketing team.
This is a hybrid position that will work at our office in Downtown Salt Lake City 3-4 days a week.

You’re a good fit if you:
Have a bachelor's degree in art, design or illustration, or equivalent experience
Have 2-5 years of professional graphic design or illustration experience
Have an excellent illustration and design portfolio that shows editorial illustration, with experience in both digital and print media that communicates powerfully
Wield a robust toolkit of illustration skills and design principles in your work
Are able to create a simple impactful visual concept that provides an ‘a-ha’ moment in the viewer when combined with the headline / story
Have experience unifying brands and building style guides to create visually congruent artwork and illustrations
Can create digital graphics and visual interactives to tell a story and augment online news stories
Have experience collaborating with a wide variety of people to form and deliver results based on a common vision

Are an ardent observer of news and current events and a consumer of in-depth reporting and analysis
Have experience working for a consumer media organization and understand journalism ethics
Have a killer editorial illustration portfolio that shows bright conceptual thinking
Have experience creating marketing campaign elements
