Job Summary:

The Digital, RF and Power Products Team is seeking a Principal Tech Fellow with a strong power electronics design and analysis background, failure investigation experience and networking skills to join our team. As a fellow, it is expected that the candidate work across Product Lines and Business Units as critical needs dictate of the Enterprise. Additionally, the Fellow will seek out and establish apprenticeships to enable a teaching culture at Raytheon Missiles and Defense. In this position, they must have exhibited a proven track record with national recognition in Power Design and architecture. The candidate of choice will encompass a history of design innovation validated by patents and technical papers and have demonstrated experience in power conversion development across the entire product life cycle. We are looking for candidates willing to collaborate, innovate, and team with program technical leadership to support their design efforts.

Our programs utilize today’s cutting-edge technology to design electronics circuits that cover a wide range of disciplines including high-speed digital electronics, configurable logic, power systems and RF seeker electronics. The entire design cycle is supported from proposal through transition to production. Our systems are subject to environments ranging from the frigid, sub-zero vacuum of space to the blistering heat of the desert floor, to the high pressures of the ocean depths.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Lead in the development of power system and subsystem architectures for RMD products

  • Lead in the selection of discrete and modular power solutions for RMD products

  • Lead teams and oversee supplier power subsystem development activities

  • Support architecture and topology trade studies for power systems and subsystems

  • Propose and coordinate independent research and development (IRAD) projects for the advancement of power conversion technology in RMD products

  • Ensure balance of risk, performance, and cost on RMD power development programs

  • Be accountable to leadership for technical decisions

  • Participate in major technical review boards, e.g., Failure Review Board

  • Communicate and collaborate with Program Management and Technical Leadership, Engineering Leadership, Manufacturing, Suppliers, and Customers

  • Guide, apprentice, mentor, and train employees within the Systems Power and Control area

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)

  • Minimum 22 years of prior engineering experience OR an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 20 years of prior engineering experience

  • Minimum 20 years of Power Design experience

  • Patents, Papers and/or Publications in related technical field

  • Leadership experience in power systems architecture and/or power conversion design for aerospace applications

  • Experience developing and writing technical proposals

  • Experience managing, cost, schedule, and technical performance requirements

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Value:

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or other related engineering field preferred

  • Demonstrated experience in power systems or power converter design for aerospace products

  • Demonstrated experience in topology research for high performance AC-DC and DC-DC power converters

  • Experience performing power architecture trades

  • Experience with modern control techniques for power converters inclusive of digital control

  • Experience in simulation, modeling and analysis techniques for power conversion electronics and components

  • Professional experience with the development of custom magnetic devices

  • Professional design experience with Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI) concerns

  • Professional design experience with voltages up to 440V or greater

  • Professional design experience with power converter designs of up to 2KW or greater

  • Professional experience with proposal development

  • Experience with aircraft, shipboard and vehicle military specifications for power and interface compliance

  • Experience developing a business strategic vision and execute changes

  • Active DoD issued Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance
