Job Description


This role will include being onsite at multiple locations and will require significant travel. Travel expectations for this position are estimated at 90% - 100% and will be required to visit different projects across multiple states. The employee’s home base can be located anywhere in the United States. Some work may occur over weekends. Regular travel home is planned for and included based on actual project coverage needs. All travel costs are paid for by the company.

As a Rail Field Operations Engineer with Olsson, you will be responsible for construction management on complex Transportation and Rail projects and integrated into the day-to-day construction activities on-site. You will be proactive in initiating the actions needed to ensure construction is completed according to plans, specifications, change directives, and schedule. As an onsite Rail Field Operations Engineer, you will be on job sites for work in all types of terrain and weather conditions. You will be required to ensure extremely high client service by being highly engaged in the work activities, effectively communicating, meeting deadlines and creating clear communications with our clients. This is a fast-paced, high demand industry and you must be ready to respond to the needs of the client. Olsson regularly works with multiple Class 1 railroads, short lines, and industry rail clients on projects ranging from new mainline track, new bridge structures, grade separation projects, drainage improvements, track extensions, and yard/terminal improvements. There are multiple opportunities to be exposed to all aspects of the rail construction industry.

We have multiple current openings and will consider candidates out of any of the Olsson office locations.

  • An interest in utilizing different technology to aid the team in team operations ranging from:
    • Reporting software,
    • Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operations
    • Survey instruments
    • Track inspection equipment
    • Remote Camera Inspections technology
  • The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
