Job Description
NEEDED: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) / Clinical Laboratory Technician
LOCATION: 1901 Veterans Memorial Drive, Temple, TX 76502
SCHEDULE:
- 40 hours per week to include rotating weekends and Federal holidays with flexible eight (8), ten (10) or twelve (12) hour tours.
- The Chief Technologist, P&LMS (or designee) shall determine the scheduled tour of duty with one-week notice of schedule changes.
- Should occasionally overtime hours be required due to short staffing or increased workload, prior approval must be received
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Medical Laboratory Technician/Clinical Laboratory Technician (MLT/CLT):
- Technician must have a 2‐year Associates in Applied Science Degree
- Technologist must have Medical Laboratory Technician/Clinical Laboratory
- Technician certification from a nationally recognized accrediting agency (ASCP, NCA
- Technician must have a minimum of two (2) years of laboratory experience.
Experience on the following analyzers is preferred:
- Sysmex XN3100 Hematology Analyzer & Slide Maker Stainer
- Sysmex Cellavision Digital Imaging
- Diagnostica STA‐R Max Coagulation Analyzer
- Beckman Iris Velocity & IQ Select Urinalysis Analyzer
- Beckman Coulter AU5800 Chemistry Analyzer
- Beckman Coulter DxI800 Immunoassay Analyzer
- Beckman Coulter Power Express Automation Line
- Osmometer
RESPONSIBILITIES: MT/CLS and MLT/CLT DUTIES:
- Must possess comprehensive knowledge of professional Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Laboratory Technician principles, practices, concepts, and theories providing for sound independent work.
- Must possess comprehensive knowledge of laboratory quality control, quality assurance procedures, and principles of performance improvement providing for sound independent work.
- Is expected to use independent technical judgment to analyze and interpret laboratory results
- Will perform, evaluate, interpret, correlate, and validate the accuracy of laboratory procedures and results.
- Requires a broad exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with minimal technical supervision.
- Will be required to monitor quality control systems and measures.
- Requires the ability to interpret and apply complex written instructions.
- Must utilize basic knowledge of laboratory equipment and be able to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation
- May need to resolve problems encountered in the laboratory.
- Must be able to communicate, consult, and interact with other members of the healthcare team, external relations, customer service, and patient education
- Will perform a broad range of laboratory procedures, including advanced and complex laboratory procedures. Must be able to recognize deviation from expected results and use scientific principles to analyze and correct problems.
- Evaluate and solve problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis accounting for physiologic processes and requirements.
- Maintain and document the optimal functioning of laboratory equipment.
- Use, calibrate, and identify malfunctions; repair and perform preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Troubleshoot issues with laboratory instruments and resolve problems.
- Diagnose deviations in test performance due to instrument malfunction.
- Perform and document quality control and quality assurance activities and corrective actions related to test performance using statistical principles and theories of performance improvement.
- Identify discrepancies, solve problems, and present solutions.
- Answer inquiries regarding test results, methodology, test specificity, test sensitivity, and specific factors which influence test results.
- Interpret results and suggest follow‐up test selection or procedures.
- Must meet all acceptable quality and productivity standards as defined by Chief, P&LMS or designee.
