Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
Honors College staff members should possess a wide-ranging intellectual curiosity and a commitment to working with high-achieving students. As Experiential Learning Director, the incumbent oversees all experiential learning opportunities in the college including strategic planning, budgeting, programming, and assessment. The Director supervises three coordinators in charge of research, service and study away opportunities. The incumbent will plan the college’s domestic and short-term study away class travel including arranging details of travel, accepting program fees from students, paying vendors, etc. The Director will also oversee the alternative beyond the classroom application process.
As Academic Advisor, the incumbent will be responsible for academic advising of approximately 75 students each semester, which involves assessing students’ curricular needs and opportunities and placing them in appropriate honors classes. Honors College Academic Advisors function as liaisons with first-year advisors and with advisors in academic units; and possess a working knowledge of college curricula, university policy, and campus resources. Using this knowledge, Academic Advisors guide students toward a rich collegiate experience that may include research, study abroad, service learning, and/or internships culminating in graduation and post-graduation success, using available technologies to ensure accurate and effective advising.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree and 5 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree and 5 or more years of experience in a higher education setting strongly preferred. Experience managing a program and supervising staff. Some knowledge of USC policies, procedures, and programs.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Applicants must have the ability to function in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The successful candidate will be well organized, have excellent written and oral communication skills, be able to deal diplomatically with various constituent groups and be proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word and PowerPoint). Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret information accurately are critical.
