This Job:
Title: Manager of Pricing and Actuarial Services

You'll Report to:
VP of Pricing

The Manager of Pricing and Actuarial Services leads the development of financial projections and analysis to arrive at meaningful information with regards to risk-influenced property and casualty insurance financial statement items. The position provides realistic and innovative solutions to financial and other problems for uncertain events to assist management in the decision making process.
What You’ll Do:
  • Develops reserving models, financial projections, contract modeling, an ad hoc analysis in support of overall actuarial goals and objectives
  • Applies knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to calculations.
  • Develops assumptions and methodologies to project costs in the contract year.
  • Collaborates with internal departments to determine and obtain relevant data points.
  • Reviews and validates data completeness and accuracy.
  • Performs financial forecasts of P&C insurance costs.
  • Supports the Company’s IBNR reserving activities by performing independent actuarial reviews. Understands and applies actuarial valuation and accounting principles. Identifies risks and opportunities in the reserving position and monitors the reserve patterns overtime.
  • Reviews work prepared by analysts and external consultants to ensure accuracy and consistency of data.
  • Supports financial forecasting by customizing actuarial models to suit business needs.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Assist with special projects, as needed.
  • Analyzes pricing and underwriting variables for adequacy, correlation , loss propensity and makes recommendations accordingly.
  • Reviews and recommends procedure changes; develops documentation and implementation processes for changes as needed.
What You’ll Need to be a Top Candidate:
Education: College Degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics or similar degree required.

Experience
: Five (5) to Seven (7) or more years of actuarial experience work preferred in Property Casualty field; with a minimum of Three (3) years required.

Skills & Knowledge
:
  • Experience leading a small team of analyst preferred.
  • Ability to analyze data and develop strategic recommendations.
  • Strong organizational skills, including time management.
  • Proven knowledge of insurance concepts.
  • Knowledge of mathematical concepts and relational databases.
  • Tableau, COGNOS, SQL and Access are preferred. Exceptional Excel skills required.
  • Excellent documentation, presentation, interpersonal, organization and leadership skills; practiced research skills.
  • Skilled in writing reports, business correspondence, work orders and procedure manuals.
  • Capability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts to practical situations
  • Skill to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical data
  • Demonstrated ability to learn additional software applications as required.
  • Ability to present ideas and information in a clear, concise, organized and diplomatic manner; gather information from multiple parties to ensure all perspectives are heard and considered; listen to others to respond effectively to ideas, thoughts and questions; express information and ideas effectively in settings including aligned or un-aligned feedback to obtain desired results.
  • Flexibility in shifting focus or course of action.
  • Resourceful in gaining input to solve problems.
Your Environment:
Working Conditions: Normal business office environment. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of time while constantly operating a computer and or other office productivity machinery such as a calculator or telephone. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery or communicate with coworkers.
