JOB SUMMARY:
Medical Assistants are responsible for performing one or more of the following clinical and non-clinical functions. This position provides support for patient care activities in the preparation, assembly and organization of the environment, equipment, and supplies necessary for patient encounters and surgical cases.
DUTIES:
- Prepare exam rooms before patient visits which includes stocking, cleaning, mopping, and setting up instruments and equipment. Maintain atomizer spray bottles. Build nosebleed kits to keep stocked for patients.
- Welcome patients by greeting them in person or on the telephone. This will include assisting with Covid screenings and temperatures at the front.
- Room patients and obtain vital signs which include height, weight, blood pressure, O2 saturation via pulse oximetry, pulse, respiratory rate, and possibly neck size using tape measure.
- Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records, keeping patient information confidential.
- Verify patient information including inputting patient history form into the electronic health record which includes medications, allergies, medical history, surgical history, hospitalization history, family history and social history (alcohol/smoking).
- Documents care provided in EHR
- Obtain STOP Bang and Epworth questionnaires for select patients.
- Ensure all consents are signed and forms are completed for the providers prior to any procedures done at the time of their patient visit (CT, allergy test).
- Perform allergy tests, pregnancy tests, strep tests, and assist in CT scans as directed and under the supervision of the provider.
- Clean and thoroughly disinfect room after each patient visit and re-prep room for next patient.
- E-Prescribe medications after patient visits as directed and under the supervision of the provider. Relay interactions directly to provider for further instruction.
- Set up and review instructions for home sleep studies with patients. Download and save report into patient chart once returned for their follow up visit.
- Perform end of day duties which include cleaning and disinfecting each room, taking out trash, proper management of biohazard waste, rinsing/cleaning of suction canisters, gathering instruments for cleaning/autoclaving, and shutting down each room including turning off equipment and lights.
- Clean and autoclave instruments at the end of each day. Wrap the necessary instruments in sterilizer pouches prior to autoclaving.
- Assist in the unpacking of medical supply orders.
- Perform weekly sterilizer testing according to OSHA standards to ensure autoclaves are functioning correctly and effectively.
- Maintain allergy testing wells and refill as needed.
- Copy patient CT scans to CD or USB for surgery as assigned.
- Complete and assist in performing inventory checks. Submit inventory to Clinical Director for review.
- Make allergy drops for patients according to providers documented formula. Refer to ECW action and call patients for pickup or mail drops.
- Perform monthly QC tests on CT machines and save report to files.
- Perform audio screenings using SHOEBOX device and tympanograms using tympanometer under the direction and supervision of the provider.
- Perform ear washes using EARIGATOR under the direction and supervision of the provider.
- Set up surgery rooms for the office-based procedures scheduled for the day.
- Assist in office based debridements and procedures done under nitrous and general/LMA anesthesia and complete/maintain surgery prep on a weekly basis.
- Complete quick yet thorough turnover of surgery rooms which includes cleaning, disinfecting, and setting up room for next procedure.
- Maintain a neat, orderly, and cleanly clinic including exam rooms, surgery rooms, and bathrooms.
- Assist in training of new staff
- Recognizes and utilizes safety precautions and procedures in adherence to established standards of infection control
- Assists in maintenance of medical equipment including PM, cleaning, troubleshooting with technicians
- Participates in Quality Assurance activities
- Assumes responsibility for attending staff meetings and in-house in-services
- Performs other duties as directed by management team
