WAGI is seeking a Full Time Certified Medical Assistant (MA-C) to join our medical clinic. The Certified Medical Assistant (MA-C) provides direct patient care in the Clinical setting, in accordance with physician s orders, recognized nursing techniques, and legal aspects of current nurse practice within Washington State and the Center s policies and procedures. The MA-C works as a team member under the supervision of an RN (Registered Nurse), ARNP, PA, or Physician.

Responsibilities

  • Rooms and prepares the patient for exam by gathering patient vitals including weight, blood pressure, pulse rate, and respirations
  • Updates and documents patient's current medications, problem list, allergies, and health history, and relevant problems and/or complaints in the patient medical record
  • Provides instruction, education, and direction to patients on routine medical questions, procedures and ordered tests
  • Assists patients with prescription refill requests within Washington Gastroenterology policy
  • Manages nursing in-box requests and maintains the sample medication supplies and the patient care supply inventory
  • Supports administrative functions of the medical office by assisting the administrative staff when needed
  • Obtains insurance authorization for necessary medications prescribed by Washington Gastroenterology providers
  • Schedules patient procedure, lab, and x-ray appointments, as well as follow-up visits for the patient. Assures the patient is scheduled at the appropriate facility, that the patient is aware, and that the information is documented in the medical record
  • Interact with and act as liaison with other offices, hospitals, pharmacies, etc.
  • Perform phlebotomy tasks taking samples as directed
  • Obtains pre-procedure medical clearance from outside providers for patients with cardiac and other high-risk modalities
  • Documents all patient care encounters accurately, completely, and in a timely manner
  • Maintains exam rooms, cleansing between patients and restocking as needed
  • Perform phlebotomy tasks taking samples as directed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Graduate of an accredited Certified Medical Assistant program
  • Current Washington State Certified Medical Assistant licensure
  • Current BLS certification
  • Previous experience as a MA-C preferred
  • Previous experience in a medical office setting with a working knowledge of medical terminology and office protocol preferred

Physical Activities and Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking
  • Prolonged periods of sitting/stationary work and performing administrative duties including the use of computers and phones
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat and kneel occasionally
  • Ability to assist patients supporting weight, assisting in positioning of patients, etc.
  • Ability to grasp small objects and manipulate medical instruments
  • Ability to reach including reaching overhead and below waist
  • Ability to lift 10 pounds frequently, occasional lifting 25 pounds
  • Ability to push/pull up to 50 pounds
  • Occasional travel may be required to other local locations on an as-needed basis to back-fill for vacations, etc.

This position may offer the opportunity for the candidate to work remotely from their home. Training would be conducted onsite at the Clinic location and the employee may have to work at the Clinic location as needed. Candidates must reside and work in Washington State and due to unique city ordinances that impact employers, WAGI does not allow anyone to work remotely from Seattle, WA. The following conditions must be met for interested candidates in their remote location:

  • A home work environment that allows you to work free from distractions and sources of background noise and free of potential hazards including tripping hazards, electrical hazards, etc.
  • Ability to secure and protect WAGI supplied computer, phone, and systems and ensure protection of Personal Health Information (PHI)
  • Though this position provides the benefit of telework, it does follow a standard schedule based on the hours of operation

Washington Gastroenterology has an excellent compensation and benefit package that includes the following:

Employees (and their families) who work full time (defined as working 30 or more hours per week) will be eligible for medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, accidental death and dismemberment, and basic life insurance. In addition employees are able to enroll in our company s 401(k) plan which includes a company provided safe harbor contribution of 3% of annual earnings and the potential for a company discretionary profit sharing contribution.

All employees will be eligible to accrue PTO at a rate of .04 hours per payroll hour (1.6 hours for a 40 hour week) which can be used for and exceeds the required mandatory WA State and other local ordinances. In addition, full time employees will be eligible for a Vacation accrual with a maximum annual accrual of 77 hours as a new hire.

WAGI has 8 standard Holidays each year for which full time employees are eligible to receive paid holiday. In addition, full time employees will be given 1 Float Holiday each year that they can schedule.

A new hire full time employee in this role will be eligible for a Hiring Bonus in the amount of $3,000.

This is an Hourly position and the anticipated Compensation range is $20.40 - $26.40. The hired applicant is also eligible for annual discretionary bonuses.
