Job Summary: Initiates assignment of harmonized tariff number/duty rates on import shipments into the United States
Job Description: Direct contact with importers to obtain essential information needed for customs clearance. Run discrepancy report end of shift and completed work reports. Secure pertinent details on importing commodities from U.S. consignees via e-mail and fax communications. Posses thorough knowledge of U.S. importing requirements and the ability to gain this information by using extensive resources. Make mathematical calculations and ensure proper questions are posed to the consignee and/or shipper regarding origin functions values and the end use of the goods being imported. Advise importer of customs charges and additional UPS charges when applicable toward clearance of goods requiring special attention. Establish contacts with frequent importers. Prioritize work to meet port specific deadlines. Document packages being held on proper hold lists.
Required Skills: Candidate must have acceptable attendance record, maximum of 4 concerns within a 6 month period. Able to work additional hours as needed. Must be able to work holidays.
Additional skills: College degree is preferred. Ability to speak foreign language, Spanish or French is desired. Courtesy plus training is desired.

Work Environment: The brokerage is a 24x7 operation. Staffing consists of full and part time employees. Brokerage is responsible for clearing international air shipments that are entering the U.S. Dress code is business casual. Candidate for this position will be working in a group of approximately twenty employees.
Additional Notes: (Limited) Flex time of 15 minutes. Job Freeze during Peak season (Oct 1 - Dec 31).
