Position Summary:

Reporting to the Associate Director, Communications, the Press Assistant will support the Communications department in all activities related to press and public relations for New York City Ballet.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist department with press inquiries and press story management

  • Field and service information and photo requests from press outlets, researchers, and internal departments
  • Assist with press story management, facilitating interviews and photo shoots as necessary

In-house Photography

  • Assist with coordinating the Company’s house photographers and shooting schedules
  • Manage, organize, and track the Company’s photography assets
  • Assist with selection and ordering of new photos throughout each season
  • Assist with required photo approvals
  • Resize and crop images as necessary

Information Distribution

  • Distribute press releases, confirmed casting, and casting updates to press contacts, and internal departments as necessary

Press Ticket Management

  • Manage the department’s press ticket distribution, including tracking and confirming press ticket requests each week, releasing and requesting tickets as needed, and finalizing confirmed press lists for each performance
  • Coordinate house seat purchases with NYCB’s Ticket Services department as necessary

Printed Playbill

  • Assist with production of the Company’s printed Playbills (for NYCB and rental performances), including drafting initial materials, coordinating updates with various departments, and facilitating final review before printing
  • Organize and file final Playbill pages for the Company’s archival records

Press Clippings

  • Track NYCB press mentions
  • Manage internal press clipping distribution
  • Organize and maintain press clipping files
  • Assist with producing press clipping reports and summaries

Office Administration

  • Update and maintain department contacts and press lists
  • Manage and process invoices
  • Maintain department files and records
  • Update artistic information throughout each season - repertory information, artist bios, and debut records

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to work both independently, and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills, close attention to detail required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a flair for creativity
  • Must be able to work some evenings, weekends and holidays as required
  • Ability to balance various projects simultaneously
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
