Job Description

The Referral Coordinator is responsible for providing a seamless patient care experience in a busy specialty practice. Daily responsibilities include checking Insurance verification, obtaining prior authorizations, referrals, scheduling appointments and testing. Obtain authorization for scheduled tests. Individual will work denial reports and provide support for corrective billings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Accepts and enters referrals into database. Provides pre-admission and financial counseling, as needed.
  • Performs referral activities for patients including pre-registering patients during intake process. Contacts referral sources to obtain demographic and insurance data.
  • Inputs and updates all pertinent demographic and financial data. Tracks patient compliance with referral appointment. Performs clerical tasks related to the maintenance of all patient medical records (including scanning records and processing medical records).
  • Performs clerical tasks related to the input and maintenance of all patient medical records (including scanning records and processing medical releases).
  • Investigates and responds to patient inquiries and complaints regarding insurance coverage. Utilizes strong customer service abilities to assist patients.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree.
  • Two years related medical office experience.
  • Accurate data entry skills.
  • Current knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and preauthorization.
  • Knowledge of IDX or similar computerized billing system.
  • Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding.
  • General understanding of back-office operations.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • PC proficiency.
  • Medical terminology preferred.
