JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Manhattan Schizophrenia Research Program (MSRP), directed by Dr. Jean-Pierre Lindenmayer, is seeking a full time Project Coordinator Specialist (PCS) to coordinate an NIMH funded clinical trial in Manhattan Psychiatric Center (MPC) and MPC's 125th Street Clinic. The PCS will be managing day-to-day activities of the study including recruitment, consenting, scheduling, data entry, handling and shipping of laboratory specimen, performance of research procedures like research questionnaires, psychiatric scales, neurocognitive tests, and others. JOB DUTIES:

  • The PCS takes a lead on the development, resourcing, implementation of a major current NIMH grant. This includes recruiting subjects, scheduling subjects for research assessments, data collection and data management; supervising research team members on tasks specific to the research project; advanced data analysis and interpretation; reporting of results, completing Institutional Review Board applications and updates.
  • Manage research projects as designated by Principal Investigator, including design, planning, monitoring and regular reporting to the Principal Investigator and the research team.
  • Develops recruitment plans for study subject recruitment, visits potential recruitment sites and interacts with referral sources.
  • Applies behavioral assessment skills such as psychiatric rating scales; screening, assessment and interviewing skills; and therapeutic interventions skills specific to the research project. This may also include delivering training and support to other research staff in these skills and monitoring and measuring research intervention quality and fidelity.
  • Develops a thorough understanding of relevant research areas using a variety of methods (e.g. Internet databases, discussion with experts, attending training, and engaging in professional development).
  • Translates existing theoretical literature and empirical data into literature reviews, summary of the evidence, and organizational briefs. This could include reviews that inform the design of new research, models of practice and/or practice improvements.
  • Based on research and evaluation data, while taking into consideration what is already published on the subject matter, take a lead in grant drafting, writing of journal publications and organizational reports, presenting at conferences, workshops and community out-reach events.
  • Ensures that research data is managed, stored, and destroyed in compliance with the requirements of the United States Food and Drug Administration, Good Clinical Practice, and International Council for Harmonization.
  • Supervises junior research staff members on tasks specific to a designated research project as directed by PI.
  • Contributes to the development of a research culture throughout the Manhattan Schizophrenia Research Program via a range of methods. such as: maintaining research website, writing brief reports, staff communications, developing and presenting research-oriented training events, and poster presentation at national meetings.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS/BA in psychology or related field
  • Prior experience in clinical research in the behavioral field; good writing skills.
  • The ideal candidate will have an interest in neuroscience and mental health, be curious about the mechanisms of behavior, a working knowledge of data management software (e.g., SPSS), and comfortable in the assessment of diagnosis and clinical symptoms, as well as interacting with mentally ill population.
