Your Opportunity


The Charles Schwab Legal Department is looking for an individual with financial, legal, and people management experience to join our team. The Third Party Legal Process (“TPLP”) group has primary responsibility for legal matters where The Charles Schwab Corporation or its subsidiaries (“Schwab”) are involved as a third party. The TPLP team handles court orders, garnishments, subpoenas, and levies. TPLP also assists various departments across Schwab with legal escalations and support. TPLP is a growing combined Schwab Blue and Schwab Green team.

We are looking for a Sr. Manager who has financial, legal, and people management experience and will be responsible for managing high performing team members who process a high volume of risk-related legal matters. The Sr. Manager will be responsible for making strong business judgment decisions without guidance, supervision of risk-related areas of work, fielding escalations, working with outside counsel, strategizing about team structure, making long-term team development goals, communicating key decision to team members, and ensuring all work is processed appropriately by team members. The ideal candidate will have experience with court orders, garnishments, subpoenas and levies, as well as management experience.

  • This is a hybrid opportunity; working in the office 3 days and remote 2 days per week

What you are good at


  • Handling and supervising the processing of court orders directed to Schwab and monitoring the development of these matters, including corresponding with attorneys, handling escalated interactions, interpreting legal documents, providing legal guidance to junior processors, making escalated decisions regarding the proper way to handle matters, and using the strongest business judgment to ensure no liability to Schwab.
  • Handling and supervising the processing of high dollar value garnishments and/or levies, including interpreting state statutes; gathering documents; communicating with attorneys, agencies, and clients; handling highly volatile matters with professionalism and integrity; and using the strongest business judgment to ensure no liability to Schwab.
  • Managing multiple priorities and overseeing distinct teams with varied strengths.
  • Managing team members and working with external counsel and effectively handling related expenses.
  • Handling matters opposite local, state, and/or federal agencies as well as private attorneys.
  • Having a robust understanding of financial accounts, associated transactions, and potential red flags.
  • Serving as the point of contact for escalated matters from other business partners, to include Estates, the Senior and Vulnerable Investor Team, and Operations.
  • Possessing, and applying to legal claims, a broad knowledge and understanding of the Company and its various businesses, the regulatory framework in which the Company operates, and the broker-dealer and financial services industry generally.
  • Ability to act decisively in making solid, informed judgment calls in response to both the business needs and the risk appetite of the firm.

What you have


  • A Bachelors’ degree is required.
  • Experience handling garnishments and court orders.
  • Experience with subpoenas and levies a plus.
  • Prior people management experience required.
  • Prior experience working in the financial industry, highly desired.
  • Sound judgment that often must be exercised in sophisticated or unexpected circumstances.
  • Keen sensitivity to risk red flags that warrant informing supervisors and other partners.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
