Job Description
School Social Worker
Cincinnati Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the position of School Social Worker. School Social Workers bring unique knowledge and skills to the school system. School Social Workers coordinate and provide social services for students of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds. They are trained in mental health, Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS), Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and classroom interventions. Services are provided in accordance with the philosophy, mission, standards, policies, and procedures of Cincinnati Public Schools. School Social Workers are instrumental in furthering the mission of the district, which is to provide a setting for teaching, learning and attaining competence and confidence in addition to working with pupils who are experiencing difficulty with school adjustment.
Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Social Work. Valid Social Work license (LSW or LISW) through the State of Ohio preferred. Valid ODE School Social Worker License or Registration is required.

Demonstrated knowledge of PBIS, SEL, mental health, community mental health resources, de-escalation, and trauma-informed care.

Demonstrated experience working with families in poverty and working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations.

Willingness to embrace systems-level work in positive school culture practices.
Major Duties and Responsibilities

Demonstrates competency in theory and practice of SEL.
-
Supports the school’s Positive Behavior Intervention Plan.
-
Identifies students with excessive absences, enforces state laws and local policies.
-
Conducts home visits with the purpose of lending support to school personnel and the family as well as for the purpose of assessment.

Builds positive relationships with students, families, administrators, teachers, and staff by bridging the gap between home, school and community.

Facilitates class meetings and small group counseling (group, individual and/or family).

Provides crisis intervention including administering risk assessments.
-
Participates in multidisciplinary intervention and special education meetings.

Assesses students as part of the special education process for adaptive concerns.

Identifies and reports child abuse and neglect.

Supports parents in accessing and utilizing school and community resources and advocates for new and improved community/school services.

Provides staff with essential information to better understand factors (cultural, societal, economic, familial, health, etc.) affecting a student’s performance and behavior.

Acts as homeless (Project Connect) and Foster Care (KISR!) liaison.

Develops staff in-service training programs.

Participates in the district crisis response team.

Furthers professional growth by seeking feedback, reflecting on and assessing own practice.

Performs other duties as assigned to assist in providing services to children and families.

Participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings.

Monitors and collaborates with Attendance Clerk.
