Role: Director – Hospitality, Full-Service

Reports To: Chief Design Officer

Location: Chicago - Downtown

Design Environments is a leading national interior design and interior architecture company that provides interior design, furniture, fixture and equipment procurement services, project management and warehousing and installation services to its clients.


Headquartered in Marietta, GA, the company has design studios and offices in Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, and Greensboro, NC. The company services the hospitality, senior living, multi-family housing, single family housing, and student housing market verticals.


One of the company’s primary target markets for accelerated growth is in the hospitality full-service market that includes brand hotels, soft brand hotels and independent hotels.

Role


The company is planning to aggressively grow its interior design team focused on full service and lifestyle hotel and needs an experienced, driven, relationship-oriented professional to lead this team. Someone who is a charismatic leader that provides inspiration and motivation to clients, projects and teams.


As the Director of the Chicago – Downtown team, you will help determine the talent needed to create a dynamic team and work with Chief Designer Officer (CDO) to build the full service/lifestyle team.


A Director should have a well-rounded skill set and be able to guide clients, projects and teams through all design phases. The role requires a keen sense of design and the design business. This is a leadership role internally and externally as the position would be representing Design Environments in various industry events and conferences.


The position requires an entrepreneurial spirit and is for someone who wants to be part of building something excellent and leading a team to success.


Job Responsibilities


  • Create and foster a positive culture
  • Collaborate with CDO and sales teams on design opportunities.
  • Collaborate with sales team on design agreements.
  • Participate in project interviews.
  • Responsible for project fee forecasting and staffing
  • Create project deliverable schedules and fees.
  • Oversee multiple projects at one time.
  • Creative writing skills to help shape design narratives.
  • Excellent eye for design to provide guidance to teams to elevate quality of design.
  • Ensure design solutions are unique and appropriate for each client and project.
  • Strong space planning capabilities.
  • Guide team on furniture and finishes selections.
  • Provide quick decision making when required to keep teams focused.
  • Inspire teams to think creatively while understanding project constraints.
  • Point person for critical client and/or brand communication.
  • Review all design decks to ensure design quality and brand standards.
  • Quality Control FF+E Specifications (as needed)
  • Quality Control ID drawing sets (as needed)
  • Ability to make in the field decisions that maintain design concept.
  • Complete understanding of all phases of construction from schematic to design development to construction documents as it relates to the production efforts by the design staff.
  • Address unforeseen challenges while maintaining composure in the presence of Client.
  • Demonstrate professional maturity and ability to interact and commune with clients in both the office and entertainment environment. Positively promote the firm in outside marketing opportunities.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide mentoring to team members.
  • Competent understanding of the total procurement process. Ability to work with procurement team to ensure design intent is met with FF&E deliverables.
  • Ability to clarify questions that may arise based on design deliverables.

  • NCIDQ certification is a plus

Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts: Interior Design
    • Associate Degree in Interior Design would be considered based on professional experience.
  • 14+ years of professional experience (hospitality experience preferred)
