Responsibilities:

Peraton is searching for a Systems Engineer in the role of Mission Support Threat Engineer, to support the Threat Products and Services (TPS) organization, responsible for the development and delivery of high-fidelity threat modeling products in support of the Missile Defense Agency and its Missile Defense Systems (MDS).


The Mission Support Threat Engineer role serves as a missile threat specialist, threat model developer, and threat model verifier and validator of threat representations across the kinematic, RF, and IR signature domains. The EO/IR Hardbody Modeling tools simulate all phases of flight, and enhancements are developed to respond to changing Missile Defense System requirements and evolving threat characteristics. This specialized position requires a detail-oriented mid-level engineer responsible for capturing and documenting requirements as they pertain to the infrared signature representation of a missile as well as developing infrared hard body missile threat models for use in a variety of modeling and simulation tools/frameworks/media.


The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of:

  • Modeling and simulation methods and processes
  • Must be well-versed with infrared signature concepts and physics behind hard body heating and how they affect infrared intensities
  • The IR Hard Body-focused Mission Support Threat Engineer will be involved in direct discussions and collaborations with our customers, threat stakeholders, intelligence analysts, and fellow engineers, at a technical level, capturing requirements necessary for developing and delivering accurate and relevant threat models
  • The selected individual must be able to work with little or no direct supervision, work as an integral member of a product delivery team and meet time critical delivery schedules
  • Provides software engineering, technical, and managerial direction for problem definition, analysis, requirement development and implementation for complex systems in the engineering discipline required to meet technical requirements
  • Makes recommendations and advises on system development, improvements, optimization, or support efforts
  • Performs risk assessments and analysis employing modeling and simulation techniques


This role requires candidates to be on-site daily with no option for remote/hybrid work.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline, 5+ years related experience; 3+ Years with Masters; 0+ Years with PhD; 9 years+ HS/GED
  • Demonstrates hands-on experience with Modeling & Simulation, RF and/or EO/IR systems, engineering for aerospace systems, or direct involvement with Missile Defense Systems, Radars, and Physics-based engineering related to IR, flight profiles, and signatures
  • Modeling, Simulation, and automation experience
  • Previous experience modeling or simulating signature profiles and responses in the IR signature and RF domains
  • Familiarity with the flight characteristics, motion, and performance of missile systems
  • Familiarity with hard body heating of objects and their corresponding signature representation
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work in a dynamic team environment
  • Must already possess an active DoD Secret clearance in order to start work

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong math, physics or engineering background is highly preferred
  • Previous experience with analyzing flight characteristics, motion, atmospheric dynamics, and missile performance parameters of ballistic missiles is highly desirable
  • Strong background in missile systems engineering principles or performance is highly desirable
  • Mastery of engineering modeling principles behind body motion, trajectory analysis, counter measures, debris, and signature modeling is a plus
