Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to provide outstanding technical consultation and leadership for electronics and electrical consumer products. Develop and maintain productive client relationship by applying industry standards and regulations to various consumer products for major clients in a professional manner. Protect the client's brand by actively participating in developing, implementing and measuring continuous improvement to the client's quality via global testing programs, factory audits and/or inspection services. Provide technical insights and interpretations to the client and global operations as it relates to compliance assessment support and governance.
Major Roles & Responsibilities
  • Technical consultation for consumer electronics in terms of regulatory, voluntary industry safety standards and market best practices to support compliance, risk mitigation, and brand integrity.
    • Products include, but are not limited to, luminaires, domestic appliances, consumer IoT, batteries, information technology, visual / audio equipment, power supply systems, , etc.
    • Requirements include, but are not limited to, electrical safety, RoHS, energy efficiency, etc.
  • Support or lead global sales initiative for consumer IoT services (data privacy, cyber-safety, cyber security, etc.) and meetings with clients and internal staff to introduce and explain BV's services.
    • Products include, but are not limited to smart home, smart wearables, connected devices, etc.
  • Partner with the Business Development (BD) and Account Management (AM) teams to ensure the successful integration of existing or new services for global programs or account prospects.
  • Contribute to a mutually beneficial client / service provider relationship:
  • Manage, analyze and communicate technical issues/questions. In conjunction with TS, research solutions as needed and provide recommendations for resolutions and required product improvement for product hazard assessment, compliance and performance.
  • Support AM in developing strong relationships with the client, Production, Designers, Merchants, Vendors and BV CPS global service network.
  • Investigate consumer complaints or product failures by investigating historical information and provide suggestions for investigative options or insights for supply chain corrective actions.
  • Contribute to special projects (i.e., competitor product studies, manual updates, etc.) as requested by the client and/or internal business partners such as Knowledge Products.
  • Keep up to date on technological changes in assigned areas of responsibilities through industry publications, seminars and working with Subject Matter Consultant (SMC) in TS.
  • Attend seasonal product line reviews and participate in product development meetings.
  • Support AM in preparing power point presentations, conducting merchant and vendor training, developing training materials and agenda.
  • Primary onsite BVCPS technical contacts for all regulatory issues/questions associated with assigned SMC categories or assigned industry requirements. (e.g. regulations, standards, etc.)
  • Attend related technical committees consumer product conferences needed to keep knowledge and skills current for assigned product categories / SMC compliance scope.
  • Provide training to clients as needed, including client meetings, mass market webinars, etc.
  • Other duties as required and defined by the Technical Director.
Additional Responsibilities for Engineer II & III:
  • Career matrix from Engineer I – III is available and would encompass experience in the position, possibly further education as well as many or all of the following increasing levels of responsibility: higher levels of engagement within the client organization, higher levels of technical knowledge related to consumer products, increased specialization in certain subject matters, supporting and providing direction to other technical onsite, demonstrably considered a technical expert.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Electrical Engineering background in terms of design, manufacturing, and/or compliance review
  • Must be technically competent in the area of applicable regulations, standards, and requirements relating to consumer electronics / electrical components or products.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and process improvement skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. (e.g. Outlook, Teams, etc)
  • Ability to interpret technical information and translate into common terminology.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral, written, presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, coordinate, delegate and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to identify client needs and priorities and make adjustments in order to meet those needs.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with others internally and externally.
  • Strong work ethic and client service skills to ensure effective, responsive client interaction.
  • Must be personable and work well independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Must be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally
Experience and Educational Background Required for the Job
  • 4 year degree in related field required (i.e. engineering, electronics, etc.)
  • 3 years’ experience with consumer product design, development or compliance
  • 2 years’ experience with customer services and/or direct customer interface role
  • ASQC CQE certification preferred or willing to participate in certification after hiring
Specialist III/Engineer I:
2 year of relevant experience required in assigned service line or related discipline
SPECIALIST IV/ENGINEER II:
  • 3 years of relevant experience required in assigned service line or related discipline
  • 2 years of relevant experience in marketing, product development or business development
Specialist V/Engineer III:
  • 5 years of relevant experience required in assigned service line or related discipline
  • 3 years of relevant experience in marketing, product development or business development.
  • MBA preferred
Special Requirements
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time in the USA and/or Canada, with limited travel internationally
