Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development and data structures/algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience testing and launching software products, with 3 years of experience in software design, architecture, and technical leadership.
  • 5 years of experience coding in C++.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience with pose tracking (e.g., face tracking, SLAM, SfM), prediction (e.g. Kalman filtering) or related algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, and/or cross-business projects.
  • Experience working with hardware acceleration.
  • Experience working with machine learning and/or performance optimization.

In this role, you'll work with researchers and engineers in a fast-paced product-oriented environment. You will collaborate closely with Google Workspace and Research teams. Your contributions will have an impact on the future of communications with Google products. In this role, you will work across our hardware and software stack to ensure high performance and robust operation of the head-tracked stereo display that sits at the center of the Starline experience.

Project Starline from Google combines advances in hardware and software to enable friends, families and co-workers to feel together, even when they’re cities (or countries) apart. Imagine looking through a magic window, and through that window, you see another person, life-size and in three-dimensions. As part of the Project Starline team, you'll work with researchers and engineers in a fast-paced product-oriented environment. Our teams collaborate closely with Google Workspace and Research teams. Your contributions will have an impact on the future of communications with Google products. You will apply technology to solve that really important problem that we often want to be together and we can’t.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $185,000-$283,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Work across the team to quantify and build strategy for improving stability and robustness of a head-tracked stereo display system.
  • Create quality metrics and measurement systems to track progress across the end-to-end motion-to-photon latency stack, and the accuracy of eye tracking and prediction.
  • Define and lead parts of the technical roadmap for a horizontal group that includes hardware, testing, and eye tracking pose prediction.
  • Identify improvements and be able to reason about full camera capture, software stack.
  • Collaborate with platform, hardware, and computer teams to identify optimal solutions.
