Ginger Mihalik

Ginger is the chief executive officer of Outward Bound USA. Previously she served as executive director of Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound School (CBOBS), where she provided strategic leadership which resulted in rapid program growth. At a little under a thousand enrolled before she was hired as executive director, CBOBS is now serving 7,000+ students annually.

Under her guidance, the CBOBS program evolved to become the region’s leader in experiential character education. Through the development of the Character Curriculum – a facilitated classroom companion program to traditional wilderness Outward Bound expeditions, CBOBS has measurably grown its community impact. Ginger’s focus while at CBOBS was on building community through outdoor adventure. The Police Youth Challenge, a nationally recognized peace-building initiative, is just one example. Ginger also worked tirelessly to expand community access to the region’s most spectacular outdoor spaces. She grew CBOBS’ course offerings with sea kayaking in the Chesapeake Bay, while also working to develop resources at her home base with a double decker challenge course at Leakin Park in Baltimore.

Her expertise in aligning communities and philanthropy as well as leading public-private partnerships have resulted in transformative funding for social justice programs, capital improvements and public schools students throughout the region. The most recent effort is the launch of a new office and program in Washington, DC.

Ginger is personally passionate about the wide range of activities that Maryland’s outdoor spaces offer. You can often find her hiking in local parks with her family, paddling and fishing with friends or introducing her dogs to the wild and wonderful world outside.
