Job Description

The Aviation Department manages and operates the Phoenix Airport System which consists of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Deer Valley Airport, and Goodyear Airport. The Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has consistently been ranked as one of the top ten busiest airports in the nation. Serving more than 125,000 passengers daily, with over 1,200 flights per day, the airport has a total economic impact of more than $38 billion per year.

Each year air travelers and private aircraft are safely routed through Phoenix Deer Valley Airport and Phoenix Goodyear Airport, which are both operated by the City of Phoenix Aviation Department. The Airport Operations Technician may work at either airport and is responsible for maintaining airport facility conditions to ensure safe, secure, and efficient airport operations. While focusing on delivering exceptional customer services other duties include:

  • Enforcing city codes along with airport rules and regulations.
  • Performing security checks.
  • Responding to alerts and emergencies.
  • Complying with and enforcing FAA rules and regulations.
  • Issuing notices of violations.
  • Overseeing contracted service providers.
  • Providing maintenance or repair of buildings and airfield facilities.
  • Performing landscape maintenance.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Familiar with Federal Aviation Administration rules, regulations, and guidelines.

SALARY


$18.57 (minimum) - $24.45 (maximum) hourly / $38,625.60 - $50,856.00 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of experience in one of the following areas:
    • Providing skilled maintenance at a civilian or military airport:
    • Airport operations and security; or
    • Performing skilled landscape or building maintenance and repair work such as masonry, carpentry, plumbing, or electrical trades.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Experience working with aircraft, fueling, or operating heavy equipment.
