Summary of Responsibilities:


Can you see yourself as part of a caring team providing individual and group services to children and adolescents?

As a Community Programs Behavioral Health Specialist (CPBHS) in addition to skill development and instruction, your duties include:

  • Crisis intervention
  • Advocacy
  • Assessment
  • Interdisciplinary teamwork
  • Community liaison

Under the supervision of the Community Programs Coordinator (CPC), CP BHSs:

  • Implement appropriate treatment strategies
  • Plan lessons
  • Complete timely and satisfactory documentation
  • Assume additional duties as assigned
  • Due to agency imperatives your responsibilities may be altered due to agency imperatives
  • Abide by all safety rules and regulations of the agency
  • Adhere to standards and regulations as set forth by the agency, The Joint Commission, OCS licensing, DMHDD, and Medicaid
  • Caring out all duties according to AK Child & Family policies, the AK Child & Family mission, and the AK Child & Family philosophy of care

All employees with AK Child & Family are required to be in compliance with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid COVID vaccine mandate. The mandate requires that by 2/14/22, staff at all health care facilities must have received their first dose of a 2-shot series (Moderna or Pfizer, currently) or a single dose of a 1-shot vaccine (Johnson and Johnson, currently) with the exception of those that have sought and been granted an exemption to the COVID mandate. Staff must complete this step before they can provide any care, treatment or other services for the facility and/or its patients. By 3/15/22, all staff with the exception of those that have sought and been granted an exemption to the COVID mandate, must complete the primary vaccination series.

Pay:

Supervision and Coordination of Services:


  • The CP BHSs are directly supervised by the (CPC).
  • Scheduling of individual/group skill development sessions, job performance evaluations, student consultations, and all other aspects of the job are coordinated and supervised by the CPC.



Qualifications:


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • The CP BHS must have demonstrated the ability to: relate positively to children with severe emotional problems, engage in physical activity, and communicate effectively in English (oral and written) and the ability work independently.
  • S/he needs to be able to work a flexible schedule; function on an interdisciplinary treatment team and independently handle crisis situations in the community using sound judgment, intervention skills, and appropriate use of supervisory guidance.
  • A valid Alaska driver’s license and use of an adequately insured vehicle is required.
  • The CP BHS must also be able to demonstrate an understanding and sensitivity to serving a culturally diverse and/or special needs population.

Education and Experience:

  • The CP BHS is required to be at least 21 years of age, possess a High School Diploma / GED, and meet State of Alaska background check requirements.
  • Two years of college education in a related field or two years direct care human services job experience working with emotionally disturbed children/adolescents preferred, but not required.
  • Life experiences outside of the stated qualifications will be considered on an individualized basis.



Physical Demands:

  • The CP BHS must be able to drive and transport self and student(s) in their own vehicle or in an agency van within the Anchorage Municipality.
  • The ability to physically manage students ages three to eighteen years, according to AK Child & Family and CP Behavior Management policies and procedures; move quickly throughout home and community recreation settings in order to monitor/supervise student activities is required.
  • The CP BHS must be able to: legibly produce reports regarding students; supervise and assist students in home and community settings; actively participate in the cleaning and general upkeep of agency property; and be able to teach, supervise and participate in recreational and leisure time activities.
