Job Summary:

The Compliance Engineer position is responsible for analyzing, creating, and submitting required government regulatory emission compliance reports for the U.S. EPA and California Air Resources Board. Provides analytical assistance for gathering and interpreting data required for specific government investigations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all Compliance Reports are properly analyzed, validated, verified, and submitted while ensuring report submission deadlines as per government regulatory requirements.
  • Identify, track, and monitor all emission reduction opportunities.
  • Identify out-of-line data while implementing corrective actions by searching through large data sets for usable information across multiple departments.
  • Ensure all sales volume data is correlated and verified for all required government reports.
  • Submit yearly EPA & CARB emissions reports as required by regulations using the appropriate government website applications.
  • Effectively communicate with EPA & CARB personnel regarding report data information as required.
  • Develop, implement, and audit company processes related to regulatory reporting.
  • Identify, track, and monitor all emission reduction credits to ensure early detection of potential emission non-compliance.
  • Provide oversight of product validation and ensure test reports are accurate, up-to-date, and stored per regulatory requirements.
  • Interact with product regulatory agencies on behalf of the organization, as needed.
  • Provide letters of compliance to meet customer requirements.
  • Work across multiple internal departments and personnel to gather data and information as needed.
  • Monitor federal laws and regulations that might affect policies, processes, or products.
  • Analyze and represent factual material related to investigations, recalls, or legal matters.
  • Develop, implement, and audit company processes related to regulatory reporting.
  • Participate in regulatory changes as well as the development of vocational standards applicable.
  • Work to ensure early detection of potential safety defects.
  • Plan and lead product safety and compliance reviews on new product designs prior to introduction, and periodically on production products.
  • Provide oversight of product validation and ensure test reports are accurate, up-to-date, and stored per regulatory requirements.
  • Review all documentation being submitted for recalls or investigations and approve the submission.
  • Provide standard and regulatory interpretation papers.
  • Manage warranty claim data.
  • Lead in the acquisition, analysis, and management of customer warranty claim data; analyze data on a regular basis to identify contributors to warranty claims.
  • Establish and lead reviews with cross-functional team members to address warranty claims; manage resulting items to timely closure and statistically validate countermeasures.
  • Utilize findings from claim data analysis to populate a monthly warranty scorecard.
  • Prepare reports as necessary for internal and customer consumption.
  • Lead in distributing and ensuring read across departments/campuses is conducted once lessons learned are available from problem-solving efforts.
  • Manage and ensure lessons are captured in controlled documents, e.g., control plans, FMEAs (Design and Process), operator instructions, design guidelines, etc.
  • Participate in design reviews for all pertinent programs associated with their customer base and provide pertinent insight and lessons learned from a warranty perspective.
  • Systematically identify and validate root causes and corresponding countermeasures with adequate controls to ensure sustainability; cascade findings for prevention occurrence.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or relevant work experience.
  • Typically requires 5 plus years of related experience.
  • Experience with and knowledge of the government bodies related to this position such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and California Air Resources Board (CARB), preferred.


Work Environment/Conditions:

  • General office environment with work on the plant floor as required.


The pay scale for newly hired employees in this position at this location in California is $75,000.00 - $122,500.00. This is based on meeting all of the requirements of the role. The base pay offered for the role may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. We are proud to offer competitive benefits in addition to competitive pay.
