Position Summary
As a Digital Modem Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and validation of multiple waveform efforts for existing and future products. With limited direction, you will exercise considerable latitude in initiating and developing architecture and detailed designs for wireless communications systems. Program objectives are normally outlined in terms of specifications, objectives, possible results anticipated and critical reference points requiring special attention.

Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Traditional signal processing techniques: Finite Impulse Response (FIR), Infinite Impulse Response (IIR), Low Pass Filter (LPF), Band Pass Filter (BPF), High Pass Filter (HPF), carrier recovery and lock, doppler correction, ambiguity resolution, phase-locked loops, digital direct synthesis, numerically controlled oscillators, bit synchronizers
  • Waveforms: mPSK (multi order Phase Shift Key), Amplitude Modulation (AM), Phase Modulation (PM), Frequency Modulation (FM), Frequency Shift Modulation (FSK), Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM), Orthogonal Frequency Division Modulation (OFDM), Frequency Hopping (FH), CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access), Low Probability Intercept (LPI), Low Probability Detect (LPD), Direct Video Broadcast (DVB) S2/S2X, Department of Defense (DoD) tactical aerial/satcom/tactical
  • Coding techniques: Pulse Code Modulation (PCM), Forward Error Correction (FEC), Reed Solomon (RS), Convolutional, Low Parity Density Codes (LDPC), Bose Chaudhuri Hocquenghem (BCH), Hamming, Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC)
  • Digital programmable technology: Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), System on Chip (SoC), Analog to Digital Converters (ADC), Digital to Analog Converters (DAC)
  • Experience with embedded processor and software integration and interoperability with digital designs
  • Familiarity with Radio Frequency (RF) and microwave components: oscillators, mixers, attenuators, amplifiers, couplers, isolators, Printed Circuit Boards (PCB)
  • Experience in hands-on system bring-up, and design validation testing, RF test equipment usage, and automated test equipment
  • Design, simulation, performance analysis, and optimization of waveforms using tools such as Matlab/Simulink

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Computer Science, Engineering, etc.) is required. Disciplines desired include hardware (digital, mixed signal), RF, FPGA, and embedded software.
  • Must have a strong technological background in digital modem design.
  • Ability to work successfully in a team, generate documentation, and participate in formal reviews is also important.
  • Must be comfortable with Agile project techniques.
  • Likes to be involved in multiple projects at one time.
  • Can provide focus and complete tasks in time-compressed programs.
  • Can rapidly develop innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
