POSITION OVERVIEW


The Director of Horticulture & Floral is responsible for assisting the SVP of Facilities by overseeing all strategic and operational matters relating to Fontainebleau floral and horticulture upkeep. This position will use professional methods and judgment to ensure that all plants, trees, shrubs, and flowers are kept in a good manner and maintain the aesthetic value of the Fontainebleau Las Vegas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following and other duties may be assigned as necessary:

  • Provide strong leadership for the Fontainebleau horticulture & floral team, which includes performance management, development, and training
  • Develop and manage the annual budget
  • Develop, manage, and maintain a calendar for the garden and landscape
  • Maintain the appearance of fountains, planters, or other ground features by cleaning, replacing, or making repairs
  • Evaluate and effectively manage/schedule personnel, and complete required personnel documentation in a timely manner; Train and develop staff in the garden area to increase their knowledge of plant materials and landscape maintenance
  • Perform routine property walks and create reports
  • Schedule and manage outside contractors working on horticulture at the Fontainebleau job site
  • Regularly communicate timelines of vendor services
  • Work alongside other Team Members and use leadership skills to guide less seasoned workers to implement best practices in horticulture
  • Install, maintain, and operate irrigation systems
  • Participate in the planning and development of planting programs and natural open space restoration projects
  • Prepare, fertilize, amend, or condition soils for different types of plants or plant communities
  • Oversee site information including inventory, bed dimensions, ‘as builds’, and site analysis
  • Ensure that urgent situations are addressed and executed within the horticulture division promptly
  • Implement outside services program, ground lighting, up lighting, etc.
  • Temporary or permanent duties and responsibilities may be added to or modified as deemed necessary

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Facilities Management with a focus on landscape design, agriculture, or life sciences, or equivalent in a related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in horticulture, landscape design, or a related field is required
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of landscaping, including mowing, pruning, chemicals, annuals, tree and plant health, irrigation, and enhancements
  • Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to set clear priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Versatile team player that is comfortable under pressure and able to solve problems
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
  • Proven record of landscape maintenance scheduling, coordination, and implementation
  • Ability to manage a diverse group of employees to form a cohesive team and to delegate and organize workflow

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will supervise all positions within the Horticulture/Floral department.

Member must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state, and local regulations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in English may also be required.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
