Role Summary

The Director of Vendor Maintenance is responsible for monitoring and administering all outsourced aircraft heavy maintenance. This people leader role participates in vendor contract negotiations to ensure contracts satisfy the technical, contractual, quality, and schedule requirements of Alaska Airlines (AS).

Key Duties

  • Participates in vendor contract negotiations to ensure contracts satisfy the technical, contractual, quality, and schedule requirements of Alaska Airlines (AS).
  • Maintains and manages vendor maintenance budgets.
  • Through direct/indirect reports ensures all maintenance is performed in compliance with Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and AS policies.
  • Partners with heavy maintenance planning to develop adequate short and long-range maintenance requirements to ensure adequate Vendor Maintenance capacity and quality.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with existing/potential vendors to develop a list of qualified vendors capable of meeting planned maintenance requirements with the best quality and price.
  • Supports in-house maintenance by maintaining a list of available vendors capable of meeting spikes in short-term maintenance needs.
  • Assists in development of new or revised division policies and programs to achieve M&E objectives.
  • Directs and coordinates the efforts of the staff groups, including engineering and planning, to ensure all required information is supplied in the time required to support maintenance.
  • Monitors contract fulfillment to ensure all vendors operate within contract requirements (e.g., cost, delivery schedule, and quality).
  • Ensures, along with Quality Assurance, all CFRs and ASA's technical requirements are satisfied.
  • Serves as member of the DAG/CASWG (Divisional Analysis Groups/Continuous Analysis and Surveillance Working Group), the ASA Maintenance Review Board, and an advisory member of the Reliability Analysis Program Control Board meetings.
  • Maintains compliance with SMS and AS safety policies and procedures, as well as federal regulations, by reporting any safety hazard or potential hazard.
  • Stays current on all training to maintain current qualifications.
  • Leads by example and includes SMS in daily work habits and remains current in SMS training requirements.
  • Promotes an environment in which quality, safety, and compliance is everyone's responsibility.
  • Promotes a high performance culture by cultivating and motivating direct/indirect reports through coaching, mentoring, and by providing regular and meaningful feedback.
  • Identifies and provides career development opportunities through developmental assignments and formal/informal training.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 8 years of experience in vendor maintenance.
  • 5 years of leadership experience, with at least 2 of those years directly leading people.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree, with a focus in engineering, operations, business administration, or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and oversight functions.
  • Ability to develop new ideas to improve safety, compliance, efficiency, and cost.
  • Superior ability to present complex problems and situations to senior/executive leadership and to drive resolutions with limited guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and drive change cross-divisionally for mutually beneficial strategic and operational impact.
  • Strong communication (e.g., verbal, written, presentation) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to create collaborative relationships that drive outcomes in the best interest of the company, with others in the organization, and with key external business partners.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Outlook).
  • A Master of Science degree in engineering or a Master of Business Administration degree.

Salary Range

$151,700 - $250,300 / year

Salary Details

The pay range and total target compensation package listed above is the expected pay offered for this position at the start of employment. Your pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, your relevant experience/level, experience level, and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees.
