The Director, Revenue Cycle Business Process, is directly responsible for OptumCare CDO engagement within the assigned Service Area. The Director will work to leverage performance in OptumCare functional areas, providing feedback and influence to continually improve CDO revenue cycle performance in line with National Revenue Cycle strategic initiatives and Key Performance Indicators. The Director, Revenue Cycle is a critical member of the OptumCare National Revenue Cycle Team, and functions as a critical member of the revenue cycle leadership teams/Central Billing Office (CBO) in the assigned Service Area. The Director, Revenue Cycle utilizes historic and current data to monitor and track performance and trends and escalates issues in order to drive revenue cycle performance to the MGMA 75th percentile, lower costs and increase revenue.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Proactively monitors, trends, and facilitates the utilization of continuous process improvement methods to achieve national revenue cycle goals
  • Spearhead, with CDO, Revenue Cycle CBO and other vendors as appropriate, educational opportunities/workflow changes/technology to improve metrics, lower costs and increase revenue
  • Proactively collaborates with CBO and other vendors and CDO revenue cycle leadership to investigate negative trends or variances; leverages local relationships to resolve performance issues
  • Provides complete, accurate and timely reporting of revenue cycle data metrics to CDO leadership; supports regularly scheduled revenue cycle meetings, providing appropriate data and revenue cycle expertise/best practices. proactively provides additional analysis, as needed, to explain significant shifts or areas of concern
  • Proactively escalates risks and issues to Optum National Revenue Cycle Team, CBO and CDO Leadership, resulting in timely and effective resolution
  • Leverages relationships with appropriate stakeholders to drive repeatable process improvement across all CDO revenue cycle departments/vendors
  • Maintains knowledge of the processes related to financials in the revenue cycle model; supports activities and initiatives that result in improved efficiency and financial performance

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 10+ years of equivalent experience
  • 10+ years physician/professional revenue cycle experience (registration, scheduling, coding, and billing)
  • 10+ years proven Revenue Cycle leadership with the ability to build relationships/collaborate and influence all levels
  • Experience with the major Patient Registration and Patient Financial Services technologies
  • Solid understanding of CPT, HCPCS and ICD-10
  • Solid understanding of billing/collections and workflow/process redesign and industry best practices
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint
  • Proven ability to influence/drive change without formal authority
  • Position is in the office setting, however, must be willing and able to travel, including overnight, as needed up to 25% of the time

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $101,200 to $184,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
