The VMware{code} Community Program is VMware's main community program to attract datacenter automation engineers and general software developer engineers interested in learning how to deploy apps in VMware's SDDC environments. This program has 25k members and runs multiple activities throughout the year. The program has 225 code coaches that help drive content and engorgements for the 25K members. The program has 3K-5K active members who are engaging with the content and over 100 members who produce content for meetups and livestreaming sessions.

This role is a community leadership role, where not only will you be running the code program, but will help enable and run all community activities at VMware. As a director, you will have responsibilities for you program budget, recruiting and driving the code coaches, and interreacting with community members. This position also requires you to engage with the Business Unit (BU) leaderships, in order to enable the proper content be available for automation engineers.

This position also will help drive and leader our event strategy where we present over 100 sessions yearly at several types of events including VMware Explore, VMUG User Cons, Developer Events and various hackathons throughout the year.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

Success is defined by:

1. Successfully manage the VMware{code} program, providing opportunities for engagement for the members, sessions, hackathons, meetups, livestreams.

2. Develop relationships with BU leaders, to facilitate a solid content schedule for code members

3. Work with the Web Engineers to drive code.vmware.com features and enable content sharing by code members on GitHub.

4. Increase membership and engagement for you members throughout the year.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

1. Working directly with code coaches to drive the monthly session calendar

2. Work with VMUG leadership to setup hackathon's at VMUG UserCons and VMware Explore

3. Work with Web team to enhance and drive web improvements for all community members at developer.vmware.com/code.vmware.com

4. Drive external meetups and secondary conference schedule for membership expansion

5. Produce quarterly traffic/viewership reports for program results

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

We are a flat team, where all members report to the Sr Director, and all come to our weekly staff on zoom. The Director is also a influencer, running weekly podcasts, and running a large part of the community eco-system. VMUG/VMTN/vExpert programs. Everyone on the team is technical and can build page content (HTML/cCSS) as well as generate content via photoshop, Streamyard, adobe premier. You will be a leader of 25K IT coders where your role is to drive content to them utilizing the code coaches and other experts.

Where is this role located?

Flexible: The role is considered flexible and will be a mix of working from a local VMware office and remote depending on your preferences and the arrangements determined with your future manager. You will be expected to live within a reasonable commute of the office.

For US based candidates, the annual pay range (OTE for commissioned roles; Salary for other roles) for this position is: $137,000 - $329,000. The actual offer will be based on the role, location, and individual candidate experience. Bonus, commission, and/or equity may be eligible for this position. VMware offers comprehensive benefits including, but not limited to: medical, dental, and vision plans, company paid holidays, paid sick leave, and vacation time.
