Job Description

The DWED-ACES Part-time Specialist will provide coordination and support of short-term program courses including but not limited to forklift and manufacturing.

The part-time specialist will also prepare and assist with course paperwork, registration, and classroom preparation and maintain and update student records and rosters.

The Adult Career Education Services program with the Division of Workforce and Economic Development (DWED) is an AEFLA grant-funded program and offers classes between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm throughout the Las Vegas Valley.

Specialist duties include, but is not limited to, the following.

Coordinate classes regarding placement of instructors and students, monitor implementation of curriculum and student progress, ensure adherence to attendance posting and policies, track and ordering of instructional inventory, and work with the Advisors for marketing and maintaining class enrollment.


  • Observe adherence to forklift curriculum and administrative tasks.
  • Confer with instructors and/or advisors on individual student's needs and progress and discipline issues.
  • Assess needs for assistance such as disability resource center, financial aid, and/or additional remediation assistance and refers them to the appropriate services.
  • Interview students to obtain information about employment history, educational background, and career goals.
  • Refer qualified students to employers, employment services, and other providers for job training or placement.
  • Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
  • The need to demonstrate by actions a commitment to diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusion by behavior that fosters a work and learning environment that is safe and secure, and free from any discrimination and harassment.
  • The performance of duties should be consistently discharged in such a way as to foster a work atmosphere that promotes civility, courtesy, collegiality, and collaboration.

    Collaborate with DWED staff in the development, evaluation, and revision of courses/programs.
  • Develop, plan, and coordinate student events.
  • Attend professional meetings and training workshops to maintain professional competence.
  • Compile and study occupational, educational, and economic information to assist DWED administration in determining and carrying out objectives.
  • Provide assistance to staff in duties such as teaching forklift classes, issuing transcripts, and scheduling.

    Perform administrative procedures to meet objectives set by the ABE Grant.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by CSN, DWED, and ABE grants.
  • Prepare and maintain student short-term program reports.
  • Participate and/or serve as a proctor in student recruitment, selection, admission, and assessment processes.
  • Prepare reports to be submitted to DWED administration and ABE Grant Leads related to student progress and grant implementation measures.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Coordinate room assignments.

    Plan and promote ABE Grant-related activities.
  • Conduct orientation programs
  • Address community groups, instructors, and staff members to explain program services
  • Coordinate and represent the division at CSN, community, campus, and industry events.
  • Develop public relations materials and coordinate the production and dissemination of materials.

    Physical Demands:
  • Maintain a consistent and reliable pattern of attendance
  • As necessary, may need to work hours outside of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm and Saturdays
  • As necessary may need to travel to other campuses, work locations, conferences, etc. to complete work-related assignments and duties.

    Required Qualifications:
    1. One year of related professional experience.

    2. Experience working with a diverse workforce and/or student body.

    3. Ability to travel to various site locations.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a forklift operator
  • Valid certification to operate forklifts
  • Prior experience in manufacturing
  • Proficient in any digital environment, internet applications, Microsoft office suite, and student information systems.
  • Two years of full-time Adult Basic Education and/or English as a Second Language teaching or curriculum development experience
  • Knowledge of Federal and State Grant Implementation Guidelines
  • Ability to analyze, prepare and generate reports/spreadsheets in a timely and efficient manner.


  • Knowledge of division classes, products, and services and ability to inform internal and external customers with correct contacts.
  • Ability to be flexible with work schedule based on workload demands.

    $25.00 - $30.00 Hour
