The Strategic Initiatives - Security Solutions Engineer role will lead the conversion of business requirements into a solution created to solve an identified business problem. The solution must meet the requirements and objectives of the business and be guided by the strategies, design patterns, and best practices established by the Enterprise Security Architecture and Information Security groups. The Security Solutions Engineer will work closely with Information Security Architects, Engineers, and other subject matter experts to design solutions that meet the business needs, while implementing best strategies for protecting Costco’s systems and data. The Security Solutions Engineer is responsible for driving the team to make decisions, maintaining the documentation, and leading the technical points of discussion. This role requires someone with a broad technical background and knowledge in Information Security, as well as excellent communication and cross-team collaboration skills.

ROLE

Automates, documents, shares, educates, delegates, and improves processes.

Builds prototypes of potential features.

Enhances automation of applications, systems, and platforms and identifies opportunities for streamlining, and continuous process improvement.

Collaborates with architects to plan, design, implement, and improve new capabilities, enhancements, solutions and/or platforms.

Partners with project managers, solution leads, and other stakeholders to establish the rough order of magnitude estimates, to create and maintain a robust framework to support applications, and to deliver quality solutions.

Formulates and directs activities that align short term goals and long term initiatives while providing accurate and timely estimates of work breakdown schedules.

Runs proof of concepts and uses diagnostic/debugging skills to solve current challenges in multi-platform systems

Orchestrates reviews for system additions and/or enhancements.

Promotes and supports a culture of compliance, risk avoidance/mitigation, and corporate accountability throughout the organization through technical leadership, knowledge of business need, development and communication of policies, procedures, and plans, and assurance of solution designs that are in compliance with architecture standards, technology guardrails, security, and operational guidelines.

Provides leadership/mentoring to team members, implements development efficiencies, creates appropriate. documentation, drives operational efficiencies and technical growth within the team, and supports the release model

Optimizes team efficiency and performance through high level technical direction.

Provides technical leadership in implementation of applications, strategic planning sessions, documentation of requirements, tool implementation, database query languages, and programming languages.

Uses subject matter expertise to support industry standard source control and source change management techniques.

Presents technical designs and solutions to executives, management, and other audiences to gain consensus and/or project approval.

Solution Planning:

Researches and understands technical requirements, trends, and strategies as it relates to Azure, Cloud, Zero Trust Architecture (and others, as needed) and Security best practices and overall governance.

Assesses all project information to understand the scope, the current IT and business environment, objectives, and priorities.

Drives the team of Information Security subject matter experts (SMEs), and other SMEs, as needed, to solutions that align with the technical direction design for the overall program. Helps to define and document the proposed, high-level direction and solutions.

Analyzes technical risks and advises on risk mitigation strategies.

Identifies teams needed based on the problem/ask.

Works with the Strategic Initiatives Manager, Solutions Architect, Technical Project Managers, and Security Architecture to advise on the high-level project schedule, resource plan for the project, and project costs.

Continually research current and emerging security technologies and propose changes where needed.

Solution Delivery:

Responsible for the technical design, integrity, and quality of solution.

Drives the tactical approach and day to day operations that involves the development of cybersecurity requirements, design and artifacts, plans, and policies for moderately complex infrastructure, engineering and business goals that must meet all compliance with regulatory requirements and security controls.

Ensures that properly vetted security, networking and infrastructure services and controls are solutioned and/or selected

Responsible for the delivery of the artifacts that capture the problem statements, risks & gaps, proposed resolution and graphic representations (along with other elements).

Adheres to corporate IT standards.

Participates in reviews of the designs, prototypes, and other technical deliverables to ensure they fulfill requirements and meet standards.


REQUIRED

Demonstrated experience developing and deploying security solutions that meet customer requirements.

Ability to write and verbally communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Proven skills in leadership, relationship building, negotiation, collaboration, advocacy, governance, and consensus building.

Understands security fundamentals within different areas of expertise (Networking, Endpoint, Application, Cloud, Mobile, etc.) in order to apply Leidos technical security standards.

Demonstrates poise and creativity while working with other engineers and SMEs in different domain spaces to come to a common solution.

Knowledge of a broad spectrum of security products and ability to conduct analysis of alternatives to onboard new enterprise capabilities.

Excellent leadership skills and experience in driving teams to determine resolution paths/solutions.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills (facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution) at all levels.

Ability to translate technical ideas/designs to multiple audiences, including Executives.

Thorough understanding of and experience with multiple SDLC methods such as waterfall, SCRUM, and/or Agile.

Team player with proven ability to work effectively within a large organization that operates using a matrix organization.

Ability to communicate trade-offs and transactional states with technical and business teams.

Recommended

Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience in Information Security with a real passion for the field.

Azure Dev Ops experience is preferred.

Experience in mentoring teams on technical direction and program leadership, preferred.

Pay Ranges:

Level 2 - $145,000 - $175,000

Level 3 - $165,000 - $195,000
