We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for a(n) Engineering Intern within our Automation/Electrical team to help support our Flooring business. Did you know Leggett & Platt Inc. is the largest manufacturer of carpet cushion and hard surface underlayment in the United States? Our Flooring businesses manufacture and distribute foam-, rubber-, and fiber-based flooring underlayment for residential and commercial use. Our flooring underlayment products provide support, cushioning, and noise reduction under virtually any finished flooring material in your home or business. If you join our team, your work will ensure people across the world have a little more comfort in their lives.


As a(n) Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to learn the technical support tools used by LP Flooring Products Division. We’re looking for someone with a learning mindset, willing to jump in to get their hands dirty, and with the ability to communicate effectively with teammates. This internship will be for the Summer of 2023.


So, what will you be doing as a(n) Engineering Intern?

  • Perform assessment on carpet cushion equipment including safety, automation, and reliability vs state of the art.
  • Create ideas for expanding our efficiencies in the manufacturing environment and drive cost savings
  • Generate ideas on how to further evolve processes to meet current technologies
  • Assist in planning transition and maintenance programs for world class downtime standards.
  • Create a maintenance standard across the division by working with software models to assist with proper schedules.
  • Evaluate Real world electrical systems for safety and efficiency


To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Currently pursuing bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Automation Engineering at an accredited university
  • Entering third year of college
  • Well developed oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required
  • Capable of multi-tasking
  • Ability to prioritize a must
  • AutoCAD
  • Electrical Power Knowledge – background
  • Electrician experience helpful
