Job Description

MapLight, a technology-driven nonprofit dedicated to improving U.S. democracy, is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead software development projects. This position is full-time and available for remote work from anywhere in the United States.

This position reports to the Director of Engineering.

Current software projects at MapLight include, but are not limited to:

  • Systems for state and local governments to provide groundbreaking transparency for campaign finance. https://denver.maplight.com/public
  • The Voter’s Edge voter guide, serving millions of voters with nonpartisan information about what’s on their ballots. https://votersedge.org/ca

Key activities of the position

  • Lead and oversee teams of engineers.
  • Work with the product and design teams to understand end-user requirements and deliver results.
  • Contribute technically yourself with a portion of your time with hands-on code.
  • Collaborate with other MapLight staff on how technology can best meet our organizational and social impact goals.

Need to have:

  • 10+ years’ engineering experience with at least 3 years as a lead or manager.
  • Proficiency in one or more of NodeJS, SQL, and .NET, Angular, Flutter, Serverless.
  • Experience with AWS cloud services.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, including communicating cross-culturally and across time zones.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
  • Personal dedication to MapLight’s mission and work.

Salary and benefits

This position is full-time and remote within the U.S. The salary for this position is $120,000 to $150,000 depending on experience. This position includes a generous benefits package that includes paid vacation, health, dental, and vision insurance, and retirement matching. A four-day schedule (Monday through Thursday) or flexible work schedule may be possible.
