This position manages all event planning and recruitment, and coordinates with the Office of Global Engagement (OGE) on outreach and marketing efforts.
This position leads and organizes Learning Abroad events, including, but not limited to, the Learning Abroad Fair, faculty-led program recruitment events, new student orientations, external marketing events, inter-office trainings, and other programming as assigned. This position collaborates with the Office of Global Engagement (OGE) Marketing team on the marketing side of events planning and champions the Global U brand.
Within the Office for Global Engagement, Learning Abroad serves as the central study abroad office for both the Salt Lake City campus and Utah Asia Campus in Incheon, South Korea. We send approximately 700 students abroad annually in a variety of majors, participating in faculty-led, affiliate, exchange, and Utah Asia Campus programs. Our operation is growing; over the past few years, pre-pandemic, the number of students learning abroad increased by an annual rate of 15%.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement Learning Abroad recruiting events and activities. Effectively promote Learning Abroad as a scholarly activity that builds transferable skills. Uses a variety of innovative media and forums in an effort to increase participation and diversity in Learning Abroad programs. Coordinates and manages relationships with partners on and off campus to facilitate processes, improve opportunities, foster collaboration, and increase efficiency. Monitors best practices and trends in the field to enhance team success and stakeholder experiences.
  • Collaborates directly and often with OGE Marketing Team to develop and update digital and print materials, including flyers, social media posts, campaigns, emails, etc. Works under the guidance of OGE to design a long-term strategic marketing plan for Learning Abroad.
  • Manages Learning Abroad website, in partnership with OGE Marketing and IT. Ensures that the look and feel of software complies with institutional branding. Works with Learning Abroad colleagues to update content and make accessible. Identifies and implements website improvements. Ensures that terminology, look, and feel of software and website are consistent for users.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises student staff serving on Outreach Team (2-3 Outreach Interns). Oversees class visits, campus tabling schedule, and canvasing.
  • Coordinates Learning Abroad 101 and the Global U program to increase awareness of Learning Abroad opportunities and market the transferable skills students develop.
  • Collect and report statistical data for Learning Abroad to Open Doors and university partners in order to serve Learning Abroad and OGE’s marketing strategy.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalency, plus three years of experience in developing student programs and services; and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required. Knowledge of global political and economic situations and demonstrated human relations and organizational skills are essential elements for this position. Experience working or studying abroad is highly desirable.

Master’s Degree is preferred, as is a background that includes the ability to market concepts of international education

Preferences
  • Master’s degree in marketing, international education, higher education administration, business administration, public administration, or a related field;
  • Experience with design software, including Adobe Creative Suite;
  • Knowledge of WordPress, Omni, and/or other web content management systems;
  • Experience working or studying abroad is highly desirable;
  • Direct experience with study abroad business operations preferred;
  • Familiarity with university budgeting, purchasing, and marketing policies and procedures;
  • Familiarity with Terra Dotta and Omni
  • Familiarity with marketing software
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills;
  • Excellent problem-solving and strong analytical skills with proven ability to organize, prioritize, and multi-task to meet goals and deadlines;
  • Effective oral and written communication to positively engage people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds;

  • Hands on experience in social media content development and management.
  • Ability to deliver creative content (text, image and video);
