Position Summary

The Finance Generalist serves as a key, full-time member of the Partners for Rural Impact's (PRI) Finance Team in supporting the financial needs of various grant programs. Incumbent will review and examine transactions to ensure expenses are allowable, reasonable, allocable, and properly documented according to PRI policies, federal regulations & grant terms and conditions.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review, reconcile, and monitor monthly expense reports; ensuring reports are submitted timely, complete, and compliant
  • Reviews partner reimbursement requests to verify expenses are allowable, properly documented and meet PRI and federal grant purchasing guidelines
  • Assist with reconciliation of grant funds to ensure allocations are appropriate, properly recorded, and adequately documented
  • Monitor financial reporting due dates and assist with the preparation and submission of financial reports
  • Conduct routine trainings for partners and staff regarding financial practices, policies, and procedures
  • Serve as liaison to staff for answering questions regarding report creation, report review, and software (ChromeRiver) related inquiries
  • Draft forms, spreadsheets, and documents to help support departmental needs
  • Proofread various financial and contractual documents
  • Review and ensure the timely submission of departmental journals
  • Ensure the highest degree professionalism in all communications
  • Review departmental travel and purchasing policies and provides recommendations for revisions

Position Location & Schedule

The Finance Generalist's work may be considered for remote work with periodic travel to local and state meetings


Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with in-office and/or hybrid work a possibility. Because of the nature of the responsibility to schools, partners, funders, and to the service region, individual offices or departments may have operating hours that extend beyond this period and may include evening and/or weekend hours.


Minimum Qualifications


Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or closely related field; or four years' of related experience

Experience Required

  • 1-2 years of performing general accounting/financial work

Special skills, knowledge, and abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal grant procedures, college access and educational programs
  • Computer skills including data processing and financial spreadsheets; Microsoft Office, Adobe
  • Capacity to multi-task and achieve deadlines
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to work in a deadline driven, team environment

License, certification, or registration necessary

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to successfully complete pre-employment background check

Physical requirements

  • Ability to work within a high energy office
  • Ability to accurately communicate and exchange information with partners, stakeholders, and/or meeting participants
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to travel independently by car and plane to for meetings

Environmental conditions

  • Routine office environment with interruptions and noise due to frequent visitors, students, staff and faculty
  • Periodic to travel to meetings and/or partner program sites

Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment
