Roles and Responsibilities of Parent Coordinators
The Parent Coordinator is a member of the school staff and is supervised by the school principal. The Parent Coordinator will collaborate with and support the work of the school parent/teacher association, school leadership team, community groups, and parent advisory councils. The primary responsibilities of the Parent Coordinator include but are not limited to the following:
- Create a Welcoming School Environment for Parents
- Send a welcome letter to parents with your contact information and hours
- Post signs, displays, and bulletin boards at the school entrance about how you can be reached
- Work with bilingual parents to assist in the translation of outreach materials
- Increase Parent Involvement in the School through Outreach Programming
- Create and distribute a school directory for parents
- Survey parents to determine the information they need from the school
- Host parent workshops and meetings on issues of interest to your community and assist outreach efforts of the Parent/Teacher Association
- Develop ongoing relationships with community and faith-based organizations to share information about the school and identify community resources
- Provide information and resources that can help parents to support their children’s learning at home
- Support your School Principal in Addressing Parents’ Concerns
- Serve as the point of contact for parents
- Provide information to parents about NYCDOE supplemental services
- Work with the school staff, Regional/District, and Central Parent staff to address and resolve specific parent concerns
- Support Parents Association/PTA
- Assist in outreach for activities and to access the needs of parents
- Provide assistance, as needed, to establish PTA by-laws, nominations, and elections
- Attend PA/PTA meetings as an observer
- Establish a PTA (Parent Teacher Association), SLT (School Leadership Team), and PET (Parent Empowerment Team)
- Organize and maintain parent records
- Hold PTA/SLT meetings monthly
- Organize parent events
- Complete parent interviews for intake
- Inputting PCAR information
- Sustainability coordinator
- Runs building bottle recycling program
- Ensure all students have a school I.D.
- Ensure the completion of blue cards, lunch forms and student surveys
- Assist in student recruitment
- Assist in the organization and outreach for PTA/SLT meetings
- Assist with lunch duty
- Maintain order in the hallways
- Student Outreach
- Parent Outreach
- Print School IDs and Maintain CASS System
- Assist with student dismissal
- Assist in writing CEP
- Liaison between FACE officers and school
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $43,083.00 - $57,732.00 per year
Schedule:
- After school
- Monday to Friday
- On call
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Brooklyn, NY 11212: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
