Job Description
University of South Carolina HVAC department supports USC Housing by operating and maintaining the university’s Central Equipment and associated systems and controls. This full-time position within the Facilities Operations department supervises the resources and staff who provide on-site HVAC repair and maintenance services for assigned systems and/or buildings. The HVAC Supervisor plans, directs and oversees all work activities and maintenance technicians, which follow a daily and seasonal plan for maintenance services. The supervisor is also responsible for providing staff training and on-site assistance as needed. This position is designated as essential personnel during inclement weather.
Primary responsibilities -
- Supervisor Position
- Assist the management of campus HVAC systems and associated resources
- Project/Modification work
- Communicate, coordinate and collaborate with customers and Housing/Campus partners relating to HVAC systems
- Provide necessary oversight to ensure work is completed on time, within budget and within the department’s quality standards.
Additional Responsibilities -
- Designated as essential personnel during inclement/hazardous weather and other emergencies
- Ability to understand and apply University and Departmental policies and procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Member of the department’s after hour emergency response team (on-call/call back)

High School Diploma or equivalent and five (5) years experience in HVAC maintenance work. Associate’s Degree or Technical school certification may be substituted for two years of the required maintenance experience. Valid driver’s license by time of hire and maintain license throughout employment. Three (3) years of experience as an HVAC supervisor or lead worker.
Knowledge of HVAC Controls and EMS systems, knowledge of mechanical equipment, pumping and steam systems, chilled and hot water systems as well as a sound knowledge of air-conditioning, heating, ventilation, electrical and other related trades. Employee must use initiative and be proactive in discharging duties. Must have the ability to lead by example, solve problems, take initiative to provide services, develop strong customer relationships, measure cost and performance, keep accurate records, communicate effectively., develop proper procedures, define actions to resolve specific problem situations, communicate to supervisor and management; and prepare reports.
