Job Description

Position Overview

Intake Coordinator is the first contact with our patients, payers, and physician offices. The Intake Coordinator will answer the phones and state what needs to be pre-certified and start the pre-certification process.

Essential Job Functions

Answers incoming calls and retrieves phone mail requests and facsimile requests for authorization

  • Obtains information required to complete or initiate the pre-certification process
  • Obtains and codes diagnosis and planned procedure(s)
  • Performs data entry of new requests for authorization of services
  • Assists with returning calls, providing accurate responses to providers and members
  • Prepares Utilization Management letters and memos as requested
  • Researches returned mail for current addresses
  • Participates in monitors and gives feedback to the Internal Quality Committee
  • Acts as liaison for customer service and other outside entities as required
  • Collaborates with other departments within the organization.
  • Utilizes network system to identify network providers
  • Identifies areas of potential improvement in work flow
  • Collaborates with other departments and serves as a liaison to improve communication and customer service

Experience/Qualifications

BS/BA or equivalent work experience

Two years of office clerical experience

Computer skills

Knowledge of medical terminology and experience with ICD and CPT coding

Good telephone etiquette

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
