Job Description

To serve as an instructional support to classroom teachers assisting students in acquiring Tier 2 and Tier 3 support in math and literacy (additional practice and reinforcement of skills already taught in Tier 1 instruction by the regular classroom teacher).


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support classroom teachers and students
  • Provide tutoring practice to students as assigned by teachers (individual or small group)
  • Report regularly to principal and classroom teachers
  • Attend all building staff development and district workshops with teachers
  • Implement instruction using district standards, benchmarks and indicators applying basic learning concepts

QUALIFICATIONS:

Have a high school diploma or a GED certificate and

  • Complete 48 hours at an institution of higher education OR
  • Obtain an associate’s (or higher) degree OR

Pass a State approved assessment. Approved assessments include: Workkeys, ParaPro, or Para Educator (If you do not have a State approved assessment, KCKPS will offer one credential assessment test to candidates recommended for hire)

COMMUNICATION / ORGANIZATION: Maintains communication with school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students. Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.

Performs other related work as required.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.

While performing the duties of the job the employee occasionally may visit a child’s home. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 186 day duty year

SALARY: $16.79 - $20.06/hour

REPORT TO: Building Principal

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation and Professional Personnel.
