Job Description

Purpose
Analyze daily, weekly, and intermittent production samples. Respond to analytical results as necessary for highest corn oil and ethanol yield.

Responsibilities

• Collects routine samples to monitor liquefaction, fermentation, and corn oil extraction system.
• Performs lab analyses with close attention to detail. Documents analytical results. Makes sound, data-driven decisions in response to analytical results.
• Supports research and development by collecting non-routine samples and implementing non-routine test methods, as needed.
• Performs quality assurance testing, preventive maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs of lab equipment, including chromatography instruments, electrodes, etc.
• Learns and understands plant operations, working closely with operators.
• Assists in lab cleanliness.
• Performs other duties as required.
• Continuous career growth is required, specifically including qualification for Tier 2 and Tier 3 status.

• 40% sample prep and analysis
• 25% documentation or other reporting
• 25% review of and response to analytical results
• 10% lab equipment quality assurance and preventive maintenance

Relational and Contacts

Supervisory:

Reports directly to QA Manager and

indirectly to Shift Manager.

Internal:

Collaborates with all plant employees and is involved in non-routine planning, sampling, test methods, and shipments, as needed.

External:

The Lab Technician communicates with suppliers, arranges routine and non-routine shipments when necessary, and receives and documents third-party analytical results as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree, including coursework in lab and instrumentation, is preferred.
• A degree in a science-related or IT background is strongly preferred.
• Experience in executing detailed SOPs, or the ability to learn the use of SOPs, is required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is required.
• Microsoft Outlook and Teams experience strongly preferred
• Chromatography experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

• Excellent dexterity for good execution of lab methods.
• Wear protective equipment as required when using lab chemicals, etc.
• Lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Mobility to bend, stoop, push, and reach when using lab instruments.
• Work responsibly and follow safety guidelines in relation to environmental conditions and hazardous chemicals.
• Must be able to work extended or varied hours to meet production demands.
