Job Description
The purpose of this contract is to secure the services of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses,
medical assistants and administrative support staff to provide temporary assistance in the event of
public health emergencies or disasters in accordance with State mandates. The Department of
Public Health collaborates with the Department of Human Services, the lead coordinating agency,
and with the American Red Cross, Georgia Emergency Management Agency and the local County
Emergency Management Agencies to ensure that the general shelters are identified, inspected,
staffed and managed to meet the needs of the population during times of disaster and emergency.
Although this mandate does not require the State Entity to directly provide health care services, it
does collaborate and coordinate with multiple agencies and health care entities to arrange care for
individuals.
The State Entity may request temporary clinical and non-clinical staffing, based on experience, with
a range of emergency events in Georgia (e.g. tropical storms, floods, hurricanes, influenza
pandemic) to ensure that the State Entity is responding to the emergency event in accordance with
state mandates.
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to assist the RNs with completing intake and
registering individuals into care; monitoring vital signs; wound care; administering
medications and treatments.
** Nurses providing service must have an active nursing license and be eligible to practice in
Georgia.
** Must be proficient in the use of computers in a clinical setting. Must be proficient in oral and written English.
