SUMMARY: Sorts, meters and delivers mail as well as other small packages or items throughout district; delivers mail to post office or board member residences as required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties described below are indicative of what a Mail Clerk and Delivery Person may be asked to perform. Some duties may vary in frequency and/or other duties may be assigned that are specific to a particular need.

Mail Clerk and Delivery Person Activities:

  • Prepares all outgoing mail for pick up by United States Postal Service.
  • Sorts all USPS mail and intra-district mail and places in the appropriate area.
  • Prepares all packages for pick-up by United Parcel Service and places packages in the pick-up area.
  • Monitors account balance on postage meter.
  • Loads sorted mail into District van and delivers to various facilities.
  • Picks up mail from various District facilities.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work effectively, collaboratively and positively with administration and co-workers, etc.
  • Ability to plan, gather and organize materials to be delivered on the route, or requested by administration.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and carry out work without direction.
  • Ability to use good judgment and solve problems; sometimes within tight deadlines.
  • Ability to follow proper maintenance and operational procedures in the use of postage equipment, vehicles and supplies.
  • Work is generally performed on first shift; however, extra time may be required when large mailings are generated.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, chemical product labels, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to office personnel, teachers, students or employees of the District.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION: Valid Wisconsin driver's license.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions.
