Job Description

Plan, supervise, and manage the bridge construction projects in District 5. Perform field inspections of projects and Resident Construction Engineer's offices to ensure timely and efficient completion of projects. Attend project progress and utility meetings. Monitor contract budgets and review, analyze and recommend change orders for projects. Supervise the District 5 Bridge Maintenance unit in performing routine and emergency repairs of bridges to include structural repairs. Ensures units' vehicles, and equipment are well maintained and utilized. Coordinates with bridge inspection teams bridge closures, load postings, and repairs. Oversee the District 5 Bridge Asset Management contract. Ensure contractor performs all contractual provisions in a timely and accurate manner. Provides local support to the State Bridge Maintenance Engineer in the prosecution of work, under the Asset Management contract. Serves as preconstruction support liaison to the Regional Production Group, and oversees District 5 Utility Coordination activities for bridge projects. Provides Professional Engineering services as needed to perform other duties as required. Serves as emergency coordinator liaison for SCDOT District 5 and County Emergency services during EOC activations and mock exercises. Supervises staff to include preparing performance planning and evaluation documents and related personnel paperwork. Coaches, counsels, and trains employees. Coordinates, establishes and monitors bridge work progress and reports statuses to the District Engineering Administrator, and the headquarters Bridge Maintenance Office. Implements management policies and initiatives and promotes teamwork within the organization. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

A bachelor’s degree in Engineering and three (3) years of advanced-level engineering work experience, including experience in a technical supervisory capacity. Necessary Special Requirement: Registration as a Professional Engineer by the South Carolina State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
