WEMCO is looking for an experienced and motivated Mechanical Engineer capable of working with minimal supervision. This is a remote/hybrid position that will be based out of the Greater Seattle Area, with periodic travel as needed. Job Purpose:
As a Mechanical Engineer, your main purpose will be to design, develop, and test all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery. You will work remotely under the direction of the Spokane Division Engineering manager, to apply your knowledge of engineering principles to design products such as cranes, industrial equipment, and controls.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Assess project requirements
  • Measure the performance of mechanical components, devices, and engines
  • Use computer-aided design/modeling software
  • Undertake relevant research
  • Produce and implement designs and test procedures
  • Present designs to managers and clients
  • Analyze and interpret data
  • Design and evaluate mechanical and electromechanical systems by applying principles of mechanics, electrical systems, hydraulics, and materials
  • Develop mechanical and electromechanical products by studying customer requirements, researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials, and soliciting observations from operators
  • Develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components
  • Assure system and product quality by designing testing methods, testing finished product and system capabilities, confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes
  • Prepare product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
  • Provide engineering information by answering questions and requests
  • Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations
  • Create and review O&M manuals for all designed equipment
  • Provide tracking and reporting to help plan, develop, and mentor project teams on the implementation of recovery plans as necessary
  • Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative interpersonal working relationships with others
  • Create drawings for manufacturability using standard drafting practices
  • Diagnose problems, order appropriate parts, and design solutions to remedy project complications
  • Complete small quotes and customer proposals that are assigned to you by upper management
  • Must maintain a clean driving record since you may be asked to drive a company vehicle at times
  • Be willing to travel for short periods of time to manage project assignments
  • Be willing to study and learn relevant industry standard requirements such as ISO9001, AS9100, NCCCO, OSHA, ANSI, ASME, CMAA, AWS, IBC, ASCE, ASME, as well as any other related specifications needed to perform industry-accepted designs and equipment

Job Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to work remotely
  • Must live in the Greater Seattle area
  • At least 5 years of experience as a mechanical engineer/designer (crane & equipment design experience preferred)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience using Autodesk Inventor is preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products: Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Proficient use of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • Understanding of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, customers, and suppliers
  • Must demonstrate a strong work ethic and the ability to complete tasks independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Must have good time management and prioritization skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Must be able to pass a background check
