Summary: The primary purpose of the job description is to implement the programs of the Social Services Department, to assure that the medically related emotional and social needs of the resident are met/maintained on as individual basis, to safeguard the health, safety and welfare of all manner in accordance with facility’s established policies and procedures applicable laws and regulations and the directions of your supervisors, who include the PRSD, administrator and/or other members of the community’s management to whom such persons report, in order to assure that the highest level of social services for the community’s residents is maintained at all times. As a Mental Health Tech, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To support the community’s philosophy of care and strive to achieve its goals and objectives.
  • To greet newly admitted residents and orient them to the community and staff.
  • Being familiar with the community policies on behavioral emergencies, be trained in crisis management and diffusing a potentially volatile situation, especially concerning aggressive/agitated behavior.
  • Monitor community entrances and exits ensuring that they are appropriately closed and alarmed.
  • Monitor community entrances and exits to ensure that resident pass privileges are appropriately upheld.
  • Maintain an appropriate and therapeutic relationship with the residents.
  • Lead group sessions and / or 1:1 session as assigned.
  • Participating in resident room, community and resident checks on a daily basis to ensure residents are safe and abiding by the community expectations.
  • Making regular rounds of the facility during your scheduled shift to ensure the safety of residents and staff.
  • Assist residents going to outside programming and special community outings with arrival and departure ensuring proper hygiene, medications and clothing.
  • Participate in educational trainings and in-services provided by the community
  • Maintain knowledge of current goals/objectives that each resident is working on and encouraging the resident to do so

Daily task listing including, but not limited to:

1) Check door alarms every two hours throughout your shift; noting any concerns to PRSD, nurse and / or Administrator

2) Immediately respond to all emergency codes, particularly behavior emergencies and announcements

3) Communicate with appropriate staff, i.e. nurse, social services, and/or department heads when any incident occurs

4) Assist social services/activities with gathering residents for in-house groups, outside entities, etc.

5) Assist staff with supervising resident trust fund and money management as needed

6) Monitor community entrances and exits ensuring that they are appropriately closed and alarmed.

7) Monitor community entrances and exits to ensure that resident pass privileges are appropriately upheld.

8) Must have residents sign in and out of the community with a valid community pass; notify the nurse at if the resident has not returned at his/her appropriate time

  • Must check all bags and residents’ pockets (have resident empty) upon reentering the community

9) Answer the community phone anytime on Saturday and Sunday

10) Verify with nurse before resident leaves on pass with a visitor

11) Ensure that residents are properly dressed for the weather including hats, gloves, coat, etc. prior to going on pass, outings or smoke break

12) Assist with meals, smoke break, coffee social, activities, etc.

13) Close all common areas i.e. TV room, activity room, dining room at 10:30pm daily

14) Assist in facilitating “quiet”/evening hours

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least eighteen years of age
  • Must possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree in related social service field, preferred
  • Possess a minimum of one-year experience in a social service position and/or an
  • Other behavioral health duties as assigned
