The Nebraska History Museum is seeking 2 Museum Exhibit Operations Specialists to monitor two traveling exhibits from the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC and assist in daily oversite of volunteers for those exhibits. The exhibits have special security requirements that require personnel in the exhibit at all times. This position will perform the exhibit monitoring role and ensure volunteers are scheduled, arrive as designated times, and will deploy back up procedures if there are gaps in the schedule as well as spend time in the exhibit. This position will also assist with front desk operations and gift shop, as well as tracking volunteer attendance and compile statistical data on exhibit performance.

Examples of Work
  • Monitors traveling exhibits by standing/sitting/walking through gallery space on a continuous basis.
  • Provides front-end customer service, including greeting visitors, promoting programming and exhibits, and accepting payment for admissions, merchandise, and services.
  • Tracks volunteer schedule and hours and manages the volunteer check-in and check-out process.
  • Communicates with volunteers and staff who are signed up to work in exhibit.
  • Monitors exhibit when there are no volunteers or staff signed up.
  • Carries out opening and closing procedures.
  • Assists retail team with gift-ship sales, stocking and merchandising, and in completing quarterly inventory.
  • Maintains appearance and cleanliness of gift shop, front desk, and museum entrance.
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned to ensure museum is running smoothly.
Qualifications / Requirements

Coursework/training in administrative/office support functions, procedures, and methods including the operation of personal computers and office equipment; or areas related to the programs and functions of the employing agency.
OR
Experience in customer service or public contact; or applying criteria/regulations; and/or performing administrative/office/secretarial support work including use of personal computers and office equipment.
