Maine Medical Partners, a MaineHealth member, is seeking a compassionate Advance Practice Provider “APP” (physician assistant or nurse practitioner) to provide care for a complex neuro-oncology patient population as part of the growing neuro NP) or Physician Assistant (PA)oncology practice at Maine Medical Partners Cancer Care in South Portland. Currently, the team consists of a neuro oncology attending, physician assistant, 2 nurses, and clinical team assistant.
Ideally, applicant harbors oncology or neurology experience; however we are willing to train the right person with an internal medicine background. Exceptional new graduates will be considered. Honed communication skills allowing one to effectively interact with neurological patients affected by language or cognitive deficits is essential. In addition, the provider must feel comfortable with participating in difficult conversations as well as directing care coordination for the patients.
APP would be responsible for evaluating and managing patients with primary brain cancer (mainly gliomas, CNS lymphomas, meningiomas, ependymomas), metastatic brain cancer, or neurologic complications related to other malignancies. This includes management of chemotherapy including the evaluation and management of chemotherapy related toxicities; seizure management with anticonvulsant therapy, management of steroid complications. Also will be active in participation of clinical trials, both through cooperative groups or pharmaceutical companies.
