Rock West Composites, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a Painter (Aerospace) - Swing Shift . Must be able to work from 3pm - 12am.

Rock West Composites, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to providing innovative solutions for commercial and government customers. This position is located in our San Diego, CA- 92154 location and reports to the Manufacturing Manager.

Position Summary:

The Painter will paint various composite parts manufactured by the company. Must be able to read complex instructions and prepare equipment to complete work orders; blending and mixing paint to meet manufacturing standards.

Primary Position Responsibilities:

• Prep, mask, etch, plate, prime of composite components and parts
• Blend and mix paints, inks, and coatings to proper spray consistency; apply paint coats to exact thickness
• Spray paint coat to exact thickness per work instructions and ensure high quality final parts
• Must be able to follow complex written direction and weight / mixing coating instructions; read and understand blueprints, drawings, and work instructions
• Prepare composite and metal surfaces; sanding, etching, alodine, water break testing
• Apply chemical conversion coatings
• Perform detail touch ups
• Support with overall shop cleaning and maintenance

Required Education and Experience:

• 5-8 years of hands on painting experience in the Aerospace or Auto body industry, with several of the following processes; chemical cleaning, etching, paint/dry film coating, plating, stripping, surface prep, surface treatment/passivation.
• Must have experience spraying high performance coatings; prefer candidates with Aerospace or Auto body /bondo experience.
• Familiar with composites and metals surface preparation
• High school diploma or GED

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and stand for prolonged periods of time, climb steps, and ladders
• Must be able to work at heights utilizing fall protection equipment (man lifts, ladders, and stand)
• Must be able to lift up to 35lbs
• Must pass a respiratory physical
  
  • ability to be certified for a half & full-face respirator
• Ability to work in small confined spaces and work in an enclosed environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Completion of an Automotive Paint & Body certification or equivalent program
• Painting/surface prep experience in an aircraft or vehicle manufacturing environment
