    Job Summary
    The Digital Media Producer creates digital content from concept to delivery to meet the overall communications plan and needs for the Anchorage School District, including support of the Office of Superintendent, the Anchorage School Board, all administrative departments, and the 130 programs and schools delivering academic services to almost 43,000 students. This is an opportunity to use creativity in ongoing and specific content in developing, designing, and creating new applications, ideas, relationships, systems, or products, using artistic contributions. The media products become part of the storytelling of ASD, sharing with all stakeholders—internal and external—about the organization, decision-making process, and the day-to-day operations of ASD. The Digital Media Producer reports to the Chief of Communications, Publications, and External Affairs.
    The scope of content work for media production includes:
    • Photography for ASD stock photos, schools and District events, community outreach events, support of news/feature storytelling, support of ASD initiatives, and departmental work.
    • Original, unique visual digital media such as script writing/assistance, filming, editing, captioning, and web-accessible content.
    • Anchorage School Board meeting livestreaming/television coverage.
    • Social media campaigns (images, videos, animation).
    • Utilizing content management channels such as YouTube to best distribute ASD messaging.
    • Support administrative departments with digital content for training and instruction.
    • Capture story of employee and student successes and achievements.
    • When necessary, coordinate media coverage for day-to-day news stories, special events, and ongoing earned media coverage.
    The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).

    Job Requirements
    The following are required:
    • A bachelor’s degree in broadcasting, digital media production, media/communication studies, journalism, or a related field. Equivalent experience, education, and training may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.
    • Five years of progressively responsible experience in photography, videography, editing, and digital media-related projects.
    • Current Alaska driver’s license and transportation to be used for District business.

    The following are preferred:
    • Evidence of technology and industry-specific knowledge of digital and audio/visual media products and equipment.
    • Knowledge and experience in ASD Communications with knowledge of Anchorage School District locations, mission, and procedures.
    • Drone experience.

    Essential Job Functions
    • Works effectively and collaboratively in support of the strategic goals of the Communications, Publications, and External Affairs Department and District as a whole.
    • Plans strategically and systematically to meet the storytelling needs of ASD through coordination with schools, departments, and administrative teams, combining strong communication skills with technical knowledge to create a flow of ideas and create and produce content.
    • Responds to requests and delivers photos, videos, and other digital or required content in a timely and professional manner, with accountability for quality outcomes. Scripts and films original video for storytelling, messaging, marketing, and training materials and presentations.
    • Posts and shares content through the web content management platform, social media, YouTube, and other identified channels.
    • Responds to requests for digital media projects from ASD staff, schedules personal workload, in cooperation with the Communications, Publications, and External Affairs Department, to ensure timely processing and accounting for current workload, delivering excellent user outcome in customer service and quality of work.
    • Provides regular updates to supervisor on the status of projects and other assigned work.
    • Organizes and prioritizes workload using calendars, lists, and other facilitators to ensure timely and accurate completion of work.
    • Monitors inventory of supplies needed to produce digital media.
    • Develops and maintains district stock photo catalogs.
    • Operates a variety of equipment, including but not limited to printers, digital still and video cameras, office equipment, and other digital media tools, and maintains audio and visual and digital equipment to ensure proper working order.
    • Works with a customer first focus as competing priorities are managed.
    • Works and communicates effectively as a subject matter expert to establish and maintain productive working relationships with team members, employee groups, media outlet staff, and community members,.
    • Employs a proactive approach in problem-solving, responding to challenges constructively and responsibly.

    Physical /Mental Demands
    The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

    While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
