Overview:
Responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of the care provided in the departments: Acute Adult Float Pool, , Tele-Sitter-Monitor Technicians, House Supervisors, IV Therapy, Student Nurse Technicians, Virtual Nursing and Medical Admission Center RNs. Ensures that there is an established strategic plan and goals and objectives that align with the Patient Care Services strategic plans. Responsible for 24-hour management of scheduling and staffing of the outlined patient care departments. Supports scheduling and staffing practices within the Acute Adult Division. Liaison for the hospital for the UPH Float Pool Team leadership and UPH Transfer Center. Serves as chief recruitment and retention officer for departments and works in collaboration with nursing leadership to identify areas of improvement regarding practice, policies and processes.

Responsibilities:
Leadership
  • Builds trusting, collaborative relationships with staff, peers, physicians and administration to advance the core patient business strategy.
  • Responsible for department scheduling, recruitment, retention, training, performance management, and development of staff.
  • Collaborates with other Acute Adult leaders to address staffing needs within the AA inpaitent departments.
  • Collaborates with UPH enterprise entities-Transfer Center and Float Pools to address any issues and concerns.
  • Applies HR practices fairly and consistently. Utilizes Just Culture to evaluate issues and concerns.
  • Hardwires patient rounding to assure consistent contact with patients.
  • Follows-up on patient concerns and seeks resolution as soon as possible.
  • Notifies Director and/or Administration of concerns that have the potential to escalate or lead to risk management concerns.
  • Ensures compliance with the state Nurse Practice Act, state Board of Nursing regulations, and regulatory agencies’ standards.
Clinical Excellence and Educator
  • Uses advanced concepts in the application of the nursing process in the clinical setting.
  • Provides leadership, development, implementation and evaluation of evidenced-based standards of practice and care.
  • Evaluates metrics and dashboards to identify areas of practice that needs improvement.
  • Partners with providers and patient care team members to achieve progress towards desired outcomes.
  • Maintains current knowledge of trends and advances in nursing practice.
Professional Development of Team Members
  • Fosters development of unit leadership team.
  • Ensures a thorough and adequate orientation program for new team members.
  • Ensures the adequate competency training and continuing education programming is done to meet identified staff development needs.
  • Supports department and hospital shared governance infrastructure and staff engagement.
  • Supports continuous staff development and career goal achievement using formal and informal teaching methods. Communicate and teaches partners and providers on current knowledge of trends and advances in nursing practice.
Business Responsibility
  • Develops annual capital budgets.
  • Develops annual operational budgets to support strategic plan.
  • Monitors departments’ productivity.
  • Executes the established plan through measurement, monitoring, and analysis of resource utilization and adjusting direction when needed.
Qualifications:
  • Completion of an accredited nursing program.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). OR Expected to obtain Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree within three years of accepting position.
  • Writes, reads, speaks, and comprehends fluent English.
  • Ability to direct others and to exercise judgment in problem-solving scenarios.
  • Ability to lead and/or participate in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Possess a comprehensive knowledge of general nursing theory and practice and an expanded knowledge of current clinical and specialized patient care concepts.
  • Possess a broad and varied knowledge base that is continually enhanced through self-directed study and participation in educational opportunities.
  • Possess knowledge of performance improvement and quality standards.
  • Ability to complete basic computer course through in-hospital training; develops and maintains necessary computer skills including Word and Excel.
  • Manages travel to conferences and meetings as a hospital representative and makes arrangements to attend these as requested and or required.
  • Assures St. Luke’s Hospital’s Comfort/C.A.R.E. Professional Practice Model is implemented within the department.
  • Demonstrates the attributes of servant leadership, communicates exceptionally, and motivates others to achieve outcomes through work with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Commits to the hours needed to achieve outcomes and develop others to assure round-the-clock leadership. Requires flexibility with hours worked and shifting priorities as the environment changes, without losing sight of goals/outcomes.
  • Purposefully conducts all aspects of the job in an ethical manner in support of the hospital’s commitment to ethical behavior in all areas of personal and professional activity.
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
