Job Description

Position Summary:

Captures exciting highlights of camp throughout the week. Takes photos of campers and staff throughout the week that will be posted to Waldo for families to view. Post pictures on Waldo nightly. The photographer should aim for high quality photos displaying the brightest view of camp. While maintaining quality of photos, this position will also aim to take a minimum of 300 photos per full day of camp.

Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on youth development including the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and faith.


Essential Functions:

  • Will organize and plan efficient strategy to maximize the amount of photos taken every week, Sunday-Friday.
  • Will maintain quality of photography.
  • Will work with other members of the media team and administrative staff team to ensure there is always someone photographing staff and campers.
  • Throughout the week, this individual will upload pictures taken each day at the end of every day. Photos must be uploaded once a day minimum.
    • Pictures must viewed before posting to ensure there is no inappropriate aspects in the photos.
  • Will sleep in cabins with campers, but will not maintain ratio
    • When co counselors are on time off, this position will step in to help supervise children if needed.
  • All other duties assigned

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Previous experience working with children preferably in a camp setting
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention trainings.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
  • Prefer 1 year of filming and editing experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read, interpret, retain, and teach documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure/educational manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of children, parents, staff, members of the YMCA, and/or others, as well as in one-on-one situations.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense, understanding, and sound mature judgment to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, including assisting with curriculum learning. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality. The employee regularly is exposed to bodily excretions of children, depending on developmental level of children in the employee’s care. The job is working for a YMCA Resident Camp Program located at YMCA Camp Cullen in Trinity, TX.

Other Requirements:

The Photographer is required to live on the camp property during the season.
